Shattered Trust

Vyn turned to me, and I instinctively stepped back, feeling a mix of fear and anger. His eyes looked pleading, "Kendra...please, I can explain" he came closer, but I kept backing away "Stay away from me!" I said furiously.

His expression shifted to one of regret and sadness. I heard the door open, and it was Lyrien, he stepped in and looked at both of us but didn't react right away.

Instead, he said softly, "Hey...Kendra, are you okay? I'm sorry..." he trailed off. I shook my head, indicating that nothing was wrong. I walked to him, and without thinking, I took his hands in mine and walked out with him, leaving Vyn to his thoughts.

Vyn stood there, speechless, but he knew he needed to tell Kendra everything, so he decided to leave.

---------------------------------

My mind raced with so many questions as I walked back to class with Lyrien. But before we stepped in, he placed a hand on my shoulder and turned me to face him "Kendra, what was going on back there, I'm sorry for asking but did he try doing anything to you?".

I was surprised by this, he was calm but was perturbed by what he had seen earlier, "Lyrien, I promise I'm fine, we just had a little argument".

I knew that telling him what had happened wasn't right and I needed to find out what was going on myself.

After school, I ran as fast as I could to the bus stopped but Tracy stopped me on the way there, "Whoa! Calm down girl! You said we had a study session today at the library", I couldn't tell her why I had to leave, "I'm sorry, something really important came up, bye Tracy". With that said, I wrapped up our conversation and hurried off to catch the bus.

--------------------------------

"Damn! Vyn!" Acanthus cursed and spat, he stormed back and forth across the room, his anger boiling over.

The Imogi remained silent before him. Acanthus stopped in his track "You said earlier that she had the dragon's eye orb..." The Imogi nodded.

Acanthus had just realised something, he sat back on his throne and cackled, "I forgot how smart Vyn is, I should've known, now I can posses Kendra through the orb necklace!" He continued in his victorious laughter.

-------------------------------------

As soon as I arrived home, I threw my bag on the couch, "Mom! Mom! Mom!!!" I yelled in anger, and Mom rushed out of the kitchen wearing an apron and oven gloves.

"Are you baking?" I asked, curiosity got the better of me. Her eyes lit up as soon as I asked, "It's Caspian's favourite puff, he taught me how to make them the other day, Kendra you should-"

I waved my hand in a dismissive manner, "Yeah, whatever! What do you know about Acanthus and the...the Imogi and...Vyn? Did you know about all this?".

Mom's expression darkened, "What did you see? What happened?" She asked, but I was having none of it, "You're the one who should be answering questions, Mom! Not me! What's going on? What are you and Vyn hiding?!" I snapped.

The sound of the doorbell caught Mom's attention, she knew I wasn't in the mood to be ordered around, so she had to get the door herself.

I turned to the direction of the door after it was shut, and then Vyn's eyes met mine. The living room was silent and I had to break that silence, "How long has this been, you two?".

They both exchanged glances as if they were being examined by a police, waiting for one of them to speak up.

The silence only fuelled my anger, "Mom!" I yelled again, she sighed and as soon as she was about to speak up, Vyn stopped her, insisting that he had to do something first.

"Just drop it Vyn!" I warned, but he kept insisting, "Please, Kendra, I have to fix this".

Suddenly, I felt a hot sharp pain in my chest, radiating from the spot where the orb necklace had rested, I immediately placed my hand on my chest as if to shield myself from the pain but it continued.

I felt my insides ripping apart, I was being consumed by something but I didn't know what it was. Mom called my name in terror but my vision kept blurring and all of a sudden, everywhere went dark.

Vyn turned to Mom who had already pulled out a sceptre, and then he realised what mistake he had made. Kendra stood still, now being possessed by Acanthus.

"It's so good to see you again...Dara" Acanthus growled, Kendra's Mom--Dara's grip tightened on the sceptre, Acanthus sneered, "Why don't you put that away, you don't want to hurt little Kendra, do you now?".

"The deal is off! What else do you want?! I demand you leave my daughter alone this instant!" Dara couldn't attack because she didn't want to hurt Kendra.

Acanthus turned to Vyn who was wide-eyed, he didn't expect him to possess Kendra so quickly, "You have done well, my boy" he said to Vyn.

Dara's body weakened at his words, taken aback by what she had just heard but Vyn remained silent.

Acanthus chuckled, "Is this too much for you to handle, Dara? You knew how desperately I craved this power, and yet your husband had the audacity to hand me a fake.

You thought you'd outsmarted me, didn't you? You thought I'd never track down Kendra. But I did. And now, you're going to pay for your foolishness. You can't run from me forever."

His voice thundered through the room, echoing off the walls.

Dara stood there, rooted to the spot but something ignited in her that moment. "The deal was made away with years ago! I was loyal to you and helped with your plans to kill the king of Chrirzu! But how did you pay me back? You murdered my husband!"

Just as all the secrets were coming out, Vyn thought of a plan to save Kendra. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he had to try. "Please, Master," Vyn said, "don't hurt Kendra. I'll find a way to give you her powers instead."
