Tears and Temptation

Acanthus thought about what Vyn had said for a while, but something was off, Kendra had somehow regained the right side of herself and had been listening to everything.

Tears rolled down her cheek as she spoke with a shaky voice, "Acanthus killed dad...huh? And Mom, you lied to me...you told me he died in an accident!"

I felt my anger boiling. Acanthus tried to take over, but my anger consumed him, "And you!" I turned to Vyn, who was standing speechless.

"You've been working for him for a while!" I felt myself being loosed by something at that moment, and then I realised Acanthus had completely left me.

Vyn came closer and took off the orb necklace, "Kendra, I'm sorry, but that's not all of it..."

I burst into tears, not because of what Vyn had said but because I realised I was being lied to about my dad's death and knowing that the person who murdered him was still alive made it worse.

At that moment, I felt Vyn's hands around me. I was mad at him, but I had no strength to pull away, I was torn apart by anger and sadness; I needed someone to comfort me, and Vyn was that one person.

Mom had withdrawn her sceptre and watched in silence. After a while of soaking up Vyn's clothes with my tears, his phone buzzed three times.

He gently took one of his hands off me to check his phone, "Oh no..." he muttered under his breath.

While all that was happening, Tracy had been calling and texting Vyn, but Vyn didn't notice. "I...I have to go...Kendra...I'm sorry, I'll check on you later," he said.

I remained silent and watched him leave, I took my stuff and went to lock myself up in my room. Several hours passed, and it was 9 pm. I heard a knock on the door, but I refused to respond.

"Kendra...please let me in," Mom said softly and continued to knock.

I remained silent, knowing that she had brought me dinner, which I didn't want to eat, and I didn't plan on going to school the next day.

Mom refused to leave, which was exasperating, I picked up one of my crocs and threw it to the door.

She was petrified by the sound, causing her to drop what she was holding. "Go away!" I raised my voice in anger.

----------------------------------

Vyn became hysterical as he drove along the road, his thoughts were swirling together in chaos.

His phone began ringing again, Tracy was calling, he picked up "Hey-" before he could speak, Tracy went ballistic, "Vyn, you've never done this before, what's happening? You didn't even text back! You didn't call to check on me! And I didn't see you after school today, Vyn what's going on?".

Tracy's words pierced Vyn's heart like a knife. He sighed "I'm sorry, something came up, I had to..." he trailed off trying to find the right words.

He could hear Tracy's breath shaking, "You had to do what, what are you not telling me? If it was that important, you should've informed me Vyn" Tracy broke down.

Vyn brought his car to a halt, and made sure his voice was steady, "Listen Tracy, I don't think I can continue with this-" Tracy stopped him mid-sentence "Let me make this easier for you, basketball court, tomorrow, bye!" With that said, she hung up.

Vyn's grip on the stirring wheel tightened "Damn! Not now!" he said to himself as he laid back on his seat, thinking about his next move.

----------------------------------

"I'm breaking up with you...Tracy" Vyn finally blurted out. Tracy's face saddened, "Friends then, let's...let's stay friends" That was all she could say at that moment, silence crept in as Tracy realised something "Kendra isn't here today" She didn't want to meet Vyn's eyes so she looked away. Vyn rubbed the back of his neck thinking of what to say "Yeah...she had to help her Mom out with something, she didn't what it was". Tracy only gave a nod and left.

------------------------------------

I heard a knock on my window, I lazily got out bed to check who or what it was. I pulled my curtain to the side, only to find Vyn at the window, floating! I frowned and pulled back the curtain but he refused to give up knocking.

I was left with no choice but to open up, he came in and I stood there silently. I could feel his eyes on me as I stood there in my pyjamas.

"Kendra, I'm really sorry about yesterday, I know it's a lot for you to take in-" I felt my anger rising again, but I didn't get a chance to say anything.

I felt his warm hand over my mouth and his other hand at my back. His eyes locked on mine as he spoke softly "I know you're mad at me, and you can decide not to forgive me but I'll do anything in my power to protect you from now on...and..." He glanced sharply at the door and then back at me "...please don't raise your voice, your Mom probably hates me now".

He gently removed his hands and moved back slightly, looking at the floor.

"You said you were going to find a way to give my powers to Acanthus..." I sighed and then continued "...well, that's not happening".

He looked at me with a shock on his face and I glared at him "My powers are mine only and I will master them" I pointed at him "And you will help me do that!" Vyn's expression turned into a frown.

"You have no clue what danger you're putting yourself in and you have no idea how cruel and evil Acanthus is, he has to get whatever he wants...you have to give your powers Kendra, don't put your life at risk"

I knew Vyn was right but I also needed to avenge my father's death "If you refuse to help, then our friendship would be considered over and you'll face my vengeance too".

"Kendra, you can't say that, I'm trying to protect you! I've worked for Acanthus and I know what he's capable of!" He insisted but I refused to listen.

"Fine...I'll just have to figure out how to convince him" He said, and then we both heard a knock on the door, I sighed and looked at Vyn "Come in" I said with my arms crossed.
