The night was thick with the stench of decay, the wind carrying the distant growls of the infected.
"Everyone, to your positions!" Malik bellowed, raising his rifle. The guards quickly took cover behind makeshift barricades.
Adrian gripped his weapon tightly as his system's voice echoed in his mind—
[Threat detected: Incoming horde of infected.]
[Tactical suggestion: Take high ground, prioritize fast-moving targets.]
His eyes darted to the second floor—the former employee lounge, now converted into a watch post. From there, they could effectively snipe the advancing infected.
"Rex, with me!" Adrian muttered.
Rex nodded and followed swiftly.
Sophie glanced at them but didn't stop them. Instead, she turned to Kyle and said, "Go with them."
Kyle hesitated but eventually nodded, gripping his rifle as he followed.
As the three reached the second floor, the first wave of infected emerged from the darkness.
Leading the charge were several grotesque, sinewy creatures with glowing green eyes—Predators. Faster and stronger than regular infected, their twisted bodies moved with terrifying agility.
"Shit! Those aren't normal zombies!" Kyle cursed, opening fire.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three shots rang out. Two bullets hit their targets, but the Predators barely staggered, their momentum hardly affected.
[Analysis: Targets have enhanced durability. Conventional bullets ineffective. Aim for head or joints.]
Adrian adjusted his aim, exhaled slowly—
Bang!
His shot struck a Predator's knee, sending it crashing down with a screech. Kyle wasted no time, delivering a finishing shot to its head.
"It works!" Kyle exclaimed.
"Keep at it." Adrian reloaded, eyes scanning for the next threat.
Below, Malik and his guards fought fiercely at the barricades, but the infected numbers kept growing, pushing closer.
"Sophie, is there another entrance at the back?" Adrian asked through the radio.
"Not yet, but we won't last long!" Sophie's voice was tense.
"We need more firepower," Adrian muttered.
"What's your plan?" Rex asked.
"We find explosives," Adrian said, eyes locking onto the storage room below.
The three quickly made their way across the second floor and into the storage area. Shelves were overturned, but in the corner, a few propane tanks and gasoline cans remained untouched.
"Jackpot!" Rex grinned, pointing at a stash of old incendiary grenades.
Kyle frowned. "Are you sure about this? If the fire spreads, we'll burn down our own stronghold."
"We don't have a choice." Adrian tossed a Molotov to Rex and Kyle.
Just as they prepared to return, a deep, guttural growl echoed from the far end of the storage room.
The three of them froze, slowly turning their heads—
A massive figure emerged from the shadows.
It stood two heads taller than any infected they had seen before. Its skin was charred black, muscles bulging beneath the surface. Half its face still bore traces of human expression, but its eyes burned with nothing but pure bloodlust.
[Threat detected: Special infected - "The Ripper."]
[Danger level: High.]
"What the hell is that?" Kyle whispered, his voice barely audible.
Adrian didn't answer. His finger tightened on the trigger.
A second later, the beast charged!
