The air grew heavier after the Ripper's body fell. Adrian, Rex, Sophie, and the other survivors didn't have time to celebrate their hard-fought victory. The horde of infected was still closing in fast, and time and space were rapidly forcing them to make the hardest decisions of their lives.
"We need to move, now!" Adrian clenched his teeth, quickly checking his equipment to ensure they could keep pushing forward.
"There's no way out that way. What do we do?" Rex frowned, pointing to the far end of the parking lot, where abandoned cars were piled up, already overtaken by the infected.
"We can't go that way." Sophie looked in that direction, worry in her eyes. "If we want to survive, we need to go around."
Adrian's mind raced, weighing the countless options before him. But none of the choices felt safe. Surrounded on all sides, their only hope was to break through the infected and find a way out.
"We don't have time," Adrian muttered. "We need to figure out how to distract them."
"We can blow up those cars and create a barricade." Rex suggested, pointing to a few parked oil tankers in the distance. "If we set them off, we might lure some of the zombies away."
Adrian nodded. "That'll do." He quickly pulled the remaining Molotovs and a grenade from his pack. "We don't have much time. Holding them off long enough to ignite the explosion is our biggest challenge."
The three of them moved quickly, executing their plan. Adrian led Sophie and Rex toward the oil tankers, the horde getting closer by the second. The cars were immobile, but they were still their best option.
"Surround the tankers, and light them up." Adrian ordered in a low voice.
Rex lit a Molotov and threw it toward one of the targets. The flames erupted almost immediately, and the other tanker followed suit as the fire spread quickly. Black smoke billowed into the sky like a demon tearing through the night.
"Move out, now!" Adrian shouted, leading the group toward a nearby abandoned building.
Just as they reached the entrance, a deafening explosion rang out, shaking the parking lot. The shockwave threw them to the ground. Adrian quickly got up, gripping his weapon, ready for whatever threat came next.
"Go! We need to find somewhere to hide!" Rex shouted.
But then, from the smoke and flames, a figure emerged, walking slowly through the debris. Clad in torn clothing and carrying a heavy pack, the figure's face was obscured, but its presence exuded a cold indifference.
Adrian gripped his handgun. "Who are you?"
The figure looked at them with an unreadable expression, his voice low and detached. "You've finally arrived."
"What do you mean?" Adrian frowned, instinctively on guard.
The figure smirked, his lips curling into a cold smile. "You're not the only ones, Adrian. Everyone here has a choice. Your path, your fate, all lies in your hands." He turned and began walking toward the ruins in the distance, his steps deliberate.
Adrian hesitated for a moment but then decided to follow. "Do you know the way out?"
The figure stopped, turning slightly to glance at them. There was a flicker of something complex in his eyes. "How far you can go depends on the choices you make."
