Chapter 13: stranger stranded in stranges land

Keith's eyes slowly opened, and he was met with an unfamiliar, desolate landscape. "Where am I?" he muttered, scanning the area.

Suddenly, a status window popped up before his eyes.

NOTICE

Due to inconvenience in the area, the system is temporarily shutting down. Please grab your essentials before the system shutdown. Your item box and other skills will remain online.

The system provided a brief info:

"You have been transported to the past, where the first hero was chosen to fight against the Demon God. Your presence has caused an anomaly, and the system is experiencing critical failure. To support the player, the system will sever its connection to the mainframe and delete itself temporarily. However, certain skills and items will remain available after deletion."

Keith's eyes widened as he quickly grabbed his essentials:

- AK-47 with Dragon's Breath bullets

- Grenades

- Flashbang

- Crossbow and arrows

- Medkits

- Mask Rider Faiz belt

- C4

- mini gun

He stored them in his item box, feeling a sense of relief.

A voice, Metatron, echoed in his mind. "Player, I'm afraid our time is limited. The system's anomaly is causing instability. As a parting gift, I'll leave you with some skills and items. Item Box, Appraisal, Charger Punch, and the Mask Rider belt will remain with you. The system will delete itself, but it will be available again when you return to your timeline."

The system window flickered, and a list of items appeared:

- Item Box

- Appraisal

- Charger Punch

- Mask Rider belt x1 (Cannon Resummon and other items)

With a final message, the system deleted itself, leaving Keith alone in the desolate land.

"What's going on?" Keith wondered, looking around at the unfamiliar surroundings. "What demon god am I supposed to fight? Tsk, what a mess. Well, I better get going."

He stood up, dusting himself off, and began walking into the unknown. As he walked, his figure became smaller and smaller, and he muttered to himself, "Fuck, I forgot to grab my motorcycle!"

Meanwhile, back in the present, the goddesses and gods gathered in a grand hall, discussing their next move against the Demon Lord.

Goddess Lycana spoke, "We must act swiftly to prevent the Demon God's return! And we must prevent Xandros from unsealing the Demon God. If he succeeds, the consequences will be catastrophic."

Goddess Dern Riona nodded gravely, "Our scouts report Xandros's power grows stronger by the day. We can't let him unleash the Demon God's wrath upon the world."

God of Knowledge, Cique, added, "We've discovered a weakness in the seal, but it's heavily guarded. We'll need a skilled operative to—"

Goddess Lycana's voice slipped, "Actually, I sent Keith back in time to... prevent the Demon God's influence from spreading in the first place."

God of War, Antares, raised an eyebrow. "You mean, to kill the Demon God before he became a threat?"

Goddess Lycana's face revealed her mistake. "Yes... that's exactly what I meant."

The room fell silent, with the gods and goddesses exchanging concerned glances.

God of War, Antares, leaned forward, his voice low and serious. "Lycana, are you aware of the risks? Altering the timeline can have unforeseen consequences."

Goddess Lycana nodded, her expression resolute. "I understand the risks, Antares, but we can't afford to wait. Xandros will stop at nothing to unseal the Demon God. Keith's mission is our best chance to prevent catastrophe."

God of Knowledge, Cique, spoke up, "We should monitor the timeline for any changes. If Keith's actions succeed, it could alter the course of history."

Goddess Dern Riona added, "And if he fails... we need a contingency plan."

The gods and goddesses began discussing strategies, their voices filled with determination and concern.

Meanwhile, in the past, Keith continued his journey, unaware of the weight of his mission or the gods' watchful eyes.

Keith trudged on, his feet aching from the 2-kilometer walk through the endless grasslands. He took a swig from his water bottle, gazing up at the sky. "Man, what am I supposed to do here?" he muttered, frustration etched on his face.

He looked up, shouting at the heavens, "Hey, you fucking goddess! This is not funny! Sending me to an unknown timeline is the baddest move you'll do! Not cool!"

Keith continued walking, his anger slowly giving way to determination. Another mile passed, and he spotted something in the distance through his binoculars—a carriage.

"Finally! A ride!" he exclaimed, hope rising in his chest.

As he approached the carriage, his excitement faltered. Shredded bodies lay scattered around, their limbs torn and mangled. Keith's eyes widened in horror. "The fuck happened here?!"

He cautiously approached the carriage, his hand on the grip of his gun. What had caused such carnage? Was whatever was responsible still nearby? Keith's instincts screamed for him to be vigilant.

Keith's eyes widened as he took in the gruesome scene. Suddenly, he spotted a giant monster devouring the carriage's horses. The creature's massive jaws tore flesh and bone with ease.

As Keith froze in horror, the monster slowly turned its head towards him. Their eyes met, and Keith's instincts kicked in. "Oh shoot! Time to run!" he yelled, turning to sprint away from the monstrosity.

The ground shook beneath his feet as the creature gave chase. Keith's heart pounded in his chest. He pumped his arms and legs, desperate to escape the monster's deadly grasp.

Keith swiftly summoned his AK-47, the familiar weight reassuring in his hands. He unleashed a burst of gunfire at the monster while continuing to sprint away.

The AK-47's loud report echoed through the landscape as Keith fired round after round at the creature. The monster roared in response, its massive body barreling forward with relentless speed.

"Shit stop following me! I'm not taste good!"

As Keith turned to sprint away, the chimera's jaws snapped mere inches from his heels. He pumped his arms and legs, his heart racing with adrenaline. The creature's roar echoed through the landscape, making Keith's skin crawl.

He swiftly summoned his AK-47, the familiar weight reassuring in his hands. He unleashed a burst of gunfire at the chimera while continuing to sprint away. The AK-47's loud report echoed through the landscape as Keith fired round after round at the creature.

The chimera recoiled, its lion-like body stumbling as the bullets ripped into its hide. But it quickly recovered, its serpent-like tail lashing out with deadly precision. Keith dodged and weaved, firing his AK-47 in short bursts. The 7.62mm rounds tore into the chimera's flesh, but it seemed to absorb the impact, its advance unrelenting.

Keith's breathing grew ragged as he sprinted across the plains. He could feel the chimera's hot breath on his neck, its jaws snapping mere feet away. He zigzagged, trying to shake the creature off his tail.

Suddenly, Keith spotted a rocky outcropping in the distance. He made a beeline for it, the chimera hot on his heels. As he reached the rocks, Keith spun around, AK-47 at the ready. The chimera charged, its jaws wide open. Keith fired a precise burst, aiming for the creature's eyes. The bullets ripped into its face, causing it to stumble.

Seizing the opportunity, Keith sprinted forward, AK-47 blazing. The chimera thrashed about, its body torn and battered. Finally, it collapsed, its massive body crashing to the ground.

Keith stood panting, his chest heaving with exertion. He gazed down at the chimera's lifeless body, a mix of relief and adrenaline coursing through his veins.

With the immediate threat neutralized, Keith's thoughts turned to his surroundings. Where was he? What other dangers lurked nearby?

Keith turned around, his gaze falling upon a stray horse nearby. "Oh nice, I think you're one of the horses from that carriage," he said, approaching the animal cautiously.

As he grabbed the horse's leash, Keith's eyes lingered on the carnage around him. He walked back to the carriage, searching for anything useful amidst the destruction.

He spotted a sword with an intricately designed hilt, partially hidden beneath a pile of debris. "Ah, a sword. Could come in handy," Keith muttered, picking it up.

Next, he rummaged through the carriage's remains, finding a small stash of food and a pouch filled with gold coins. "Jackpot! In this kind of world setting, you need gold to survive!" he whispered, pocketing the loot.

Before leaving, Keith bowed his head, his voice barely above a whisper. "Rest in peace, travelers. May your journey to the afterlife be peaceful. Thank you for the horse and the gear."

With a final glance at the carriage, Keith mounted the horse, feeling a sense of gratitude towards the unknown dead. He adjusted his seat, gripping the reins firmly. "Time to find out what this world has in store for me."

Keith urged the horse on, its hooves pounding the earth as they galloped across the open plains. The wind whipped through his hair, and the sun beat down on his face.

As the morning wore on, Keith spotted something on the horizon—the outline of a city, its walls and towers rising above the landscape.

"Yes!" Keith exclaimed, spurring the horse on. They rode faster, the city gates growing larger in his sight.

Before noon, Keith rode into the city, the sounds of merchants and traders filling the air. People bustled about, going about their daily business.

Keith guided the horse through the crowded streets, taking in the sights and sounds of this new world. He wondered what kind of place this was and what kind of people lived here.

As he rode, Keith noticed the city's architecture was a mix of medieval and ancient styles. The people, too, seemed to be from different cultures, all living together in this vibrant city.

Keith guided the horse to a nearby tavern, the sign creaking in the gentle breeze. "The Red Griffin" seemed like a good place to start.

He tied the horse outside and stepped inside, the warm glow of the tavern enveloping him. The aroma of roasting meat and freshly baked bread filled his stomach, and his growling hunger became almost unbearable.

"A room for the night and a hot meal, please," Keith asked the barkeep.

The barkeep, a stout man with a bushy beard, nodded. "Coming right up, traveler. What can I get for you?"

Keith's eyes scanned the menu, his stomach rumbling in anticipation. "Whatever's hot and filling, please."

The barkeep chuckled. "Sounds like you need our special—roasted boar with mashed tubers. I'll get that out to you pronto."

As Keith waited for his food, he took a seat at the bar, striking up a conversation with the barkeep. "So, what's the city like? Any... unusual happenings lately?"

The barkeep raised an eyebrow. "Unusual? Well, there've been rumors of strange creatures in the nearby woods. Some folks say they've seen shadowy figures lurking around the city walls at night."

Keith's ears perked up, intrigued. "Shadowy figures, you say?"

The barkeep leaned in, lowering his voice. "Aye, and there's talk of a prophecy—something about a great hero rising to defeat a darkness that threatens the land."

Keith's food arrived, and he dug in, savoring the flavors. As he ate, he listened intently, gathering information about the city and its people.

As Keith savored his meal, a group of adventurers approached him. They were a rough-looking bunch, with scars and leather armor.

One of them, a burly man with a thick beard, asked, "You look like a traveler. Where are you from?"

Keith chewed slowly, his eyes narrowing slightly. "I'm from far, far away," he said, a hint of a smile on his face. "Where the land is safe, and the people are nice, and no one disturbs your meal."

The adventurers exchanged skeptical glances, but Keith continued eating, unfazed. The burly man, Galahan, chuckled. "Sounds like a paradise. What brought you to our neck of the woods?"

Teresa, a lithe woman with a bow slung over her shoulder, leaned in, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Yeah, what's your story, stranger?"

Jinx, a young man with a mischievous grin, snickered. "Maybe he's running from the law or a woman."

Keith shrugged, taking another bite. "Just passing through. Looking for new opportunities."

The adventurers nodded, seeming to accept Keith's vague answer. They eyed him with interest, and Keith sensed they might be useful allies—or potential rivals.

Galahan extended his hand, a friendly smile on his face. "Well, stranger, I'm Galahan. Nice to meet you."

But Keith's eyes narrowed, his gaze flicking to Galahan's hand. He saw the glint of a knife hidden in Galahan's palm, and his instincts kicked in.

With lightning-fast reflexes, Keith used a shoulder throw, grabbing Galahan's arm and flipping him over his shoulder. Galahan landed hard on the wooden floor, the knife flying from his hand.

The tavern patrons gasped in surprise, and Teresa's eyes widened. "Whoa, easy there!"

Jinx's grin faltered, and he took a step back. "Hey, no need for that, friend."

Keith stood tall, his eyes locked on Galahan. "You shouldn't sneak knives on friends, Galahan."

Galahan rubbed his sore shoulder, a mixture of anger and admiration on his face. "You're quick, I'll give you that."

The tension in the room dissipated, and the patrons returned to their drinks and conversations. Keith's actions had sent a clear message: he wasn't someone to be trifled with.

"Alright, let's get things straight. I don't want any trouble, so if you need anything or something, just ask me, and I'm willing to help," Keith said.

"Which side of the gate did you enter?" Jinx asked, and Kieth just raised an eyebrow before answering, "At the west gate, why?"

"Did you see the wrecked carriage there and the bodies?" Jinx asked again, and Kieth just nodded.

"So you saw that chimera?" she asks again.

"Kimera what?" he repeats.

"I mean, did you see the chimera, that huge monster?"

"Ow… yeah, it chased after me, but I managed to take it down." He replied, and all of the eyes of the people around him widened in shock because in this era no one can defeat a chimera alone.

Teresa's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Wait a minute... are you the one who took down that monster that attacked the carriage on the plains?"

Keith's expression remained neutral, but he nodded slightly. "I don't know what you're talking about, but don't worry, I didn't even go near the bodies."

Galahan's group exchanged skeptical glances, but Keith continued, "If there's a problem, I'll report it to the authorities after I finish my meal."

Galahan's face lit up with a mixture of surprise and intrigue. "If that's true, there's someone who wants to meet you right away."

Teresa leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "The lord's daughter has been ill, and there are rumors that the monster's hide has healing properties. If you really did take down the creature, the lord might be very interested in meeting you."

Jinx grinned mischievously. "And by interested, they mean generous. You might walk out of there with a fat purse."

Keith's eyes narrowed, weighing his options. What did he really know about this city and its lord? He took another bite of his meal, savoring the flavors as he considered his next move."already, let's meet this beautiful lady!"
