Chapter 5

I decisively proposed divorce, but she accused me of being jealous and unreasonable.

Then she brought Dashiell back home to care for him, saying she didn't trust hiring a nurse.

Just because Dashiell said his heart was weak and he couldn't stand dog barking, she stomped to death the dog that had been like family to me for ten years. Then she locked me up with a man-eating Tibetan Mastiff until I was gnawed down to bone fragments.

What right does Serenity have!

Dashiell's stomach started to growl loudly.

Serenity gently tapped his nose: "Is Dashiell hungry?"

She turned and angrily shouted outside: "Where the hell has that jerk Garrett hidden? Haven't you found him yet?!"

"Don't be upset, sis. Without you, Dashiell has gotten used to being hungry. This little while is nothing..."

The sympathy in Serenity's eyes was about to overflow.

"Dashiell, don't worry. I'm going to see what nonsense Garrett is up to right now! When I catch him, I'll make him kneel and feed you that beast's heart!"

With that, she rushed to the basement in a few strides and kicked open the door. As soon as she stepped inside, Serenity furrowed her brow, covering her nose from the overwhelming stench of blood.

"Holy shit! What the hell is this? The smell is so damn pungent!"

The butler, drenched in sweat, kept his head down, not daring to answer.

The Tibetan Mastiff had already been taken out, leaving behind only a mess of flesh and unidentifiable body parts scattered across the floor.

A few bodyguards were still standing around the room, their expressions equally tense.

Serenity cursed as she kicked away the dismembered limbs, sticky blood staining her high heels and leaving trails of red marks.

"Garrett! The doctor said that beast's heart could help Dashiell recover. Get your ass out here and make a stew with it. It might just make up for your fuck-up!"

She angrily paced around the room, accidentally stepping on the ruby bracelet.

"What the hell is this under my foot?!"

Serenity crouched down, picking up the bracelet that was still dripping with blood.

Not far from the bracelet lay half of my arm.

Stark white bone, with the diamond ring we chose together still on the ring finger.

Serenity stumbled back several steps, her throat instantly letting out a horrifying scream! But within mere seconds, Serenity regained her composure, her gaze turning icy as it swept over the butler and bodyguards.

"What did Garrett offer you?"

The group looked perplexed: "Miss, Ms. Carlisle...?"

"You must have gone to great lengths, finding all these movie props and fake blood. I must say, it looks quite realistic."

"You don't honestly think this cheap garbage could fool me, Serenity, do you?"

"It truly breaks my heart. I've taken care of you all for so many years, and now you've all turned into ungrateful traitors, conspiring with Garrett!"

The bodyguards and butler exchanged glances, unsure of how to respond.

Just then, Dashiell, hearing the commotion, walked in.

"Sis, don't get upset... Ah?! What... what is that thing?!"

Seeing the chunks of flesh on the ground, Dashiell screamed and hid in Serenity's arms.

"Don't be scared, Dashiell!"

Serenity held him protectively, her tone softening.

"It's just movie props they're using to act out a scene. Garrett is such a jerk! He just loves to act like a moron to show his jealousy! And these ungrateful brats are actually playing along with his little drama!"
