Chapter 8

The private room was suffused with an overwhelming scent of alcohol.

"You came." Evelina took a sip of her drink, looking down. Her flushed face betrayed how intoxicated she was.

"Should I take you home? Ethan, Scarlett said you're so in love with her you can't bear to be apart."

Evelina's tone was heavy.

"Am I always just a dog to you, coming when called and leaving when dismissed?"

She poured herself another full glass and downed it in one go.

"She said you coming to find me was just a game she was playing with you. You lost, so you came. It's all just another act."

I opened my mouth, but ultimately closed it without saying anything.

The words I wanted to say, I didn't deserve to speak.

"If you believe her, can't you believe me?" If only I could say that.

But I was a person with a disgraceful past and no future.

"Can you tell me, Ethan, did you ever truly love me?"

What was the point of such a question now?
