Chapter 49
POV: ???
"Yahahahaha, come on you bloody cunts, scale that wall and paint it in their blood!!"
Someone near me screamed out. That bandit, wearing all sorts of metals around his body acting as armor, stood atop the shoulders of another bandit as he brandished a club fixed with spikes, swinging it around frantically.
The other bandits around side-eyed him in annoyance as they turned their focus back to the walls and began to scale them.
The bandit with the club didn't notice their expressions as he kept on ordering them to go up, their numbers dwindling every few seconds as bodies fell from either the ladders or the hooks attached to metal ropes.
I stood amongst them, wearing a cloak that hid my form, unbothered by the chaos as I stared at the man above, single-handedly taking care of the bandits that climbed the walls.
Then I muttered something under my breath, as my eyes began to flicker. Within seconds, my gray-colored eyes turned blue as I gazed at his form.
His body was emitting a golden glow, but I shook my head in disappointment.
"He's a carrier of the star seed... but regrettably, it hasn't yet matured," I muttered as I sighed, looking around at the chaos. My body suddenly flickered as I teleported to one of the intact buildings nearby to overlook the battle, my gaze never leaving the man.
"Sigh, such a bore. I'll wait for my specimen to mature... but until then, I'll wait," I said to myself while gazing at the golden shield that surrounded the whole middle hive.
"Tsk tsk tsk, such a thing can never truly get rid of all daemons. Well, at least not the four of us, huhu," I chuckled lightly as I sat with grace, gazing at the spectacle below, waiting.
POV: Frag
My spine suddenly tingled as I felt someone—no, something. Sweat poured down my back, my senses going haywire.
Then suddenly I heard a shout as multiple bandits got up the walls while I was distracted.
"Shit."
Cursing, I temporarily shook off my worry about my unknown assailant as I aimed my las-rifle at the bandits, taking them out as I observed the situation.
"Argh!" "Ahhhhh!!" "Urgh, shit!"
Their grunts and shouts sounded out as they fell one by one.
While I was moving past a ladder leaned on the wall, a bandit jumped toward me, brandishing his weapon.
Acting calmly, I aimed my las-rifle at him, but he swiped it away, causing my shot to miss. He quickly closed in and swung.
Sidestepping to avoid it, I lowered my las-rifle, letting go of it, then swung my fist into his face, distracting him. I then took out a combat knife from my side and, with a flick of my wrist, cut his neck.
"Urghagaagsg."
The sound of him gurgling on his own blood didn't disturb me as I quickly kicked down the ladder, letting him and the other bandits on it fall.
Crash!
Picking up my las-rifle, I continued my assault upon the bandits that got up the wall, their bodies dropping one after the other.
"Tsk, there's too many," I muttered, annoyed, as I kicked a bandit that got close. After he dropped to the ground, I stomped on him and aimed my las-rifle at his head, firing.
After finishing him off, I looked around, gazing at the steady flow of bandits climbing up the wall. Seeing this, I quickly took out my communicator and looked for the closest signal.
But seeing that there were no fluctuations in the signals, I cursed as I dodged a knife that was thrown at me. I aimed and fired without hesitation, killing the attacker.
"Sigh, fuck, hurry your ass up, Jole, you prick," I silently muttered in annoyance.
Just as I tried to fire at the bandits in front, suddenly my las-rifle sparked and nothing came out.
"Shit."
I cursed, knocking on it a couple of times in hopes of a miraculous fix. Then my las-rifle suddenly shook, the sparks growing larger as it burned my hand.
"Ahhh, fuck!"
I cursed in pain as I quickly threw it aside, my gloves emitting flames as I tried to remove them.
Then suddenly—
Bam!
Something struck me on the back. I felt sharp pain as spikes pierced my back.
Then I was kicked, stumbling forward. Although in pain, I was still aware of my current situation. I quickly turned around and saw that bandit swinging at me again. I sidestepped.
His weapon missed, and with my gloves still in flames, I endured the pain and struck his face. The flames seared burn marks on his face, causing him to scream.
"Aahhhhhhh!!"
Adrenaline pumped through my body, negating the pain as I pushed through and punched again, hitting the same spot, worsening the burn. Finally, after six hits...
His face caught fire. He screamed in pain as the flames consumed him. Flailing, he bumped into other bandits that had gotten up, causing them to catch fire too, relieving some of the pressure on me.
Turning to my own predicament, I worried at the flames on my hands.
The fire burned away the gloves, leaving behind a burned hand. But strangely, though I felt searing pain, it wasn't spreading above my elbow unlike with the bandits who were now engulfed in flames.
"Ugh, fuck, this hurts like hell."
Then, as my head grew clearer, the flames slowly started to rise above my elbow, and the pain intensified.
"Aahhhhhhh!!!"
