Chapter 46

His eyes widened in shock, and tears were quick to fill his eyes. "I-I was just curious. You've always been so cruel to me, even though I didn't do anything to deserve it. I didn't mean...it in any wrong way."

Memories of the painful mark on his chest and the brutal beating through those boys that Alpha had rewarded him came rushing back to Eve.

But still, Alpha smirked, closely observing every changing expression on Eve's face. "I needed to keep you away from me. I wanted to make you hate me. Once I felt your warmth, I knew I'd become addicted. So, I wanted you to detest me through every way. There, I told you."

Or truthfully, he just doesn't want Eve to get involved with his family background, to shield Eve from his own dangerous world, to prevent him from getting entangled with his secrets. But that doesn't work since Nick is suspicious about them now.

Eve would be lying if he says that he's not disappointed with that explanation. Eve's voice trembled as he posed a question, "And now? Do you still want to keep me away?"

Alpha's gaze searched Eve's for something deeper while just standing there. A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he observed Eve's innocence, a facade he refused to fully believe.

He didn't answer that question and instead intertwined his hand with Eve and led him towards their dormitory.

As soon as they entered, their lips crashed in a fervent kiss. Closing their eyes and losing themselves in the kiss, Alpha's hand slid down and gripped Eve's ass and pulled Eve's hips against his own.

"Mhm... angh!" The pressure was incredible and addictive as it made Eve moan and cry for more. His head went numb as he thought it was going to explode.

However, he gently tried to push Alpha who refused at first and kept on devouring his lips.

"Hey-Wait!" It took Eve's whole strength to push Alpha away.

Alpha glared at him, eyes burning with raw lust. "What's the matter with you?!"

Eve felt shy after being scolded as he innocently looked up. "You should take a shower first," he said, a hint of blush gracing his cheeks.

"What?" Alpha's brow furrowed, bewildered by the sudden turn of conversation.

Eve's voice dropped slightly as he explained, "That guy just touched you. You're dirty now, right? So shower and clean yourself."

His words were stained with possessiveness and jealousy.

Alpha stood dumbfounded. "Where's this coming from?" he inquired, searching for the source of Eve's sudden change. But all he found was blushing cheeks.

Eve looked away when he couldn't take his gaze. "Just...like how you don't like others touching me, I also don't want anyone else touching you," he mumbled.

Alpha's eyes darkened. In less than a second, he gripped Eve's jaw so tight that it hurt. "Say those words again," he demanded, his voice low and raspy.

Eve felt scared but complied. "If my body belongs to you, doesn't that mean your body belongs to me as well? A fair deal as it is."

Alpha's reaction was unexpected. He didn't expect his heart to skip a beat, for the butterflies in his stomach to come back to life. He didn't understand why Eve's declaration of power over him turned him on.

He released Eve abruptly and stumbled back. "I...need to take a shower," he stammered, and quickly went to the bathroom.

Eve watched him go, his brow furrowed in concern. He didn't know what exactly happened to Alpha, and he wanted to follow him and ask if he's alright, but he decided against it.

He stood there waiting for Alpha to come out until a knock on the door startled him. Turning around, he walked to the door. Opening it, he found Sage standing there, with an upset and distressed face. His hair was messy, and his eyes were red and puffy. He looked devastated.

"Hey, Eve," his voice cracked with every word. "W-Where is Alpha?"

Eve's brows furrowed in worry at the sight of Sage's unease. "Are you alright?" he inquired, seeing how badly Sage was fidgeting with his fingers.

After a tense pause, Sage nodded and quickly wiped his tears. "Yes, I'm...I'm fine. It's just I-"

I don't know how to gather information about you to report to Alpha. But Sage was too guilty and scared to say those words out loud. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his hurting heart before continuing, "Do you know if Alpha has said anything to River? River's been acting strange."

Eve became even more confused. He tried to process Sage's words. "I don't know what they both talk about," He replied cautiously, feeling bad for Sage.

"Oh," Sage nodded helplessly. He thinks that probably Alpha had warned River to ignore and distance himself from him because he failed to give any useful information about Eve to him. So, he came here to beg Alpha to take back whatever he has said to River and that he would complete his task as soon as possible.

But little did he know that the reason for River ignoring him is completely different, but he doesn't remember any of that.

River was the one who made him forget everything.

"Can I help you-" Eve tried, feeling extremely sorry and sad looking at the one person who always cheered him up looking so wrecked.

"No, no, I'm fine. Please just ask Alpha to ask River to stop...i-ignoring me," he begged, tears constantly staining his face even though he kept wiping them away.

Turning around, he left without waiting for a response. Eve battled between going after him or going to River and asking for an explanation since it's truly puzzling. It didn't quite fit with his understanding of River's character. He knew that River cared deeply for Sage's well-being in this place. His first priority was Sage. His morning starts with Sage and ends with Sage.

So, it struck Eve as odd that River would suddenly change his behavior towards Sage.

Closing the door, he came and lay on his bed, contemplating the unexpected rift between River and Sage. What could have caused such a sudden and drastic shift in their dynamic?

Meanwhile, in the shower, Alpha stood beneath the warm water, the droplets cascading down his toned physique. His chiselled features and strong body glistened with water, a sight that could easily captivate anyone's attention.

He was thinking about his mission. Which was to uncover the truth behind the student killings that had been falsely pinned on him, that he failed to complete on Night's hunt.

He had intended to apprehend the real culprit during the Night's hunt, but Eve didn't let him leave the dorm. Which made him suspicious of Eve even more.

Exiting the bathroom, his gaze fell upon Eve, fast asleep on his bed. He thought of something. Changing into his clothes, he moved quietly, not wanting to disturb Eve. Slipping out of the room, he navigated the halls, his steps carrying him through the chilling silence that had settled over the academy.

His first destination was the back building, where the ancient oak tree stood sentinel, which had witnessed so much crime. The surroundings were drenched in a disturbing stillness, the impending darkness ready to engulf everything. The corridors held a creepy emptiness.

As he moved further, the hair on the back of his neck prickled. A sudden noise behind him alerted him, causing him to halt abruptly. He turned, scanning the source of the sound, but found nothing.

He feigned heading down a side corridor, his senses on high alert. True to his instincts, he detected movement, and with swift precision, he seized the intruder, pinning them against the cold wall.

Ready to throw an attack, he stopped, and shock filled his insides when the person in front of him was none other than Eve.

Alpha's eyes gleamed with a dangerous spark, his surprise turning into madness. He clamped his fingers around Eve's throat, cutting off his air supply, watching as Eve's face reddened from the lack of breath.

"What the fuck are you doing here? Tell me who exactly you are?!" His voice was low and dangerous, his grip unrelenting as he hissed out his questions.

Eve didn't answer, Alpha groaned and cursed and dragged him back to the dorm. Where he threw Eve in the centre.

"Answer me! Why the fuck were you following me?"

Eve struggled to catch his breath, his eyes tearing up, and he trembled uncontrollably. He looked frightened and ready to pass out.

"I was...I saw you leaving...I just wanted–"

"Fucking tell me the truth! Stop with your bullshit already! Your acting won't work anymore!" Alpha yelled, restraining himself from choking him again. He was going crazy, but then he saw it.

A smirk taking over Eve's lips. Eve, with a face still innocent but eyes shining with untold havoc, took a step closer to him. "If I hadn't followed you, who would've dragged you back when you passed out in the hallways?"

Alpha was baffled, he was in disbelief, and he was having a hard time understanding his words.

"What the hell—"

"TANG!"

The bell rang, and his body lost balance immediately, and he passed out.

Eve was quick to catch him in his arms. With a smile still present on his lips, he hid his face in Alpha's neck as he hugged him tightly.

"Oh, you silly little thing."
