Out of Body Experience (II)

Chapter 4

Third POV

Monday 18th May 2020

Outside Jones and Thomas Firms' Premises

9:15AM

The unlikely pair remained seated on the bench, enjoying the sandwiches in their hands. The sun was fully out, the rays of the sun shining brightly on the surface of the ground as many started to use umbrellas to prevent themselves from having a tan or a sunburn depending on how light their skin tones were. Avery could taste the chicken nuggets that Lana was eating on his body, while she could also feel him drinking a strawberry smoothie. Probably homemade, the taste wasn't as sweet as the coffee she drank in the morning, she was already craving it despite taking four cups between seven and eight at dawn.

"You could have brought me coffee." Lana commented, receiving a flick on his forehead, which was a clear 'no' from how he glared back at her with her body, making her shiver since no matter how long this had been going on, it was weird to see her own self be annoyed with her.

"No, I can still feel the taste of espresso you took this morning. I know it was four cups of nothing but pure caffeine and sugar you took this morning, you caffeine fiend." Avery was aware of her addiction to anything sweet, making him exceptionally worried as he wasn't trying to imagine going through panic attacks due to high spikes in blood sugar, while already suffering from menstrual cramps and the heavy feeling on the chest area.

"I am eating now." She pointed at the finished sandwich and the half empty box of chicken nuggets, he provided for her as she needed both the protein and vitamins as she seemed too distracted and focused on work to constantly remember to eat on her own like the normal person would.

"Only because I made you to." Avery quickly cut down her argument since it did no good. He literally argued and poked holes into people's words as a living, how was she supposed to fight that and expect herself to win without him losing his composure?

Lana wondered why she was paired up with someone that could easily put her on a leash, he was so organized and logical. She knew that she was the latter, but the former? No. Being organized wasn't her style, she wanted to be allowed to spiral and think of anything and everything before her body forced her to rest her mind after all the unnecessary and heavy thinking from her side.

"Look at the two soulmates." Anna had also left the office to check up on Lana but was greatly surprised to see them together, even if they were in separate bodies now. Her grin resembled that of a mischievous cat when looking at Avery in Lana's body, she hugged him close, receiving a glare from him as he wasn't one for physical contact like her.

"Look at who isn't over 180cm anymore." She often teased him with his new height, since it meant she got to be taller than her younger brother even if it was just temporary. Lana's height was around 171cm, and she was barely 174cm, so it wasn't much but it didn't matter to her. Avery covered her face instantly, choosing not to say anything as he preferred not to choke on the drink in his hand.

"Have you finished with the files you messed up?" Avery asked, she nodded her head, looking a bit down since she remembered that. Yet she looked at the pair before withdrawing from them since she didn't want to ruin the moment. She ran away quickly before Avery could tell her to come back.

"What did you do?" Lana wasted no time in asking him that, when she noticed the subtle smug grin on his face started to grow even bigger. "Nothing but put undignified men into the ground with a threat of a well-deserved lawsuit." He shrugged, causing her to facepalm from his sheer arrogance, the deal was for him to act tame and distracted like she normally was but not now?

"And you couldn't do that because?"

"They were being awfully disrespectful and prideful for a couple of men that can't even file a paper. "

"Ugh." Lana groaned, quickly feeling a handkerchief used to clean the corners of her mouth after she was done eating, quickly withdrawing back in response, as she hid the look of annoyance mixed with embarrassment, which was obvious by the fair skin of the body she was currently in. "So easy to fluster as always." He teased her, clearly seeing the resemblance between Avery and Anna a lot more as they seemed to have an air of mischief when they got comfortable around people. She hoped the pair of siblings wouldn't start ganging up on her for their amusement in the near future.

"Yes, because I am supposed to be a rock when someone offers to help me out." Her sarcasm was shining through once more, since she was pushed to the edge by his words. She quickly stood up before trying to walk away but he held her and tugged her back to the bench. "You still need to drink something that isn't processed."

"Then will you let me go?" Lana asked. Avery hummed softly to that question as he sipped the smoothie, the flavor of the sweet strawberry flooding her taste buds. "Stop doing that." The lawyer continued to drink the smoothie, eyes focused on her and her alone as his expression quietly screamed 'dare me'. "Just answer the question."

"You already know it." He stood up, kissed her on the cheek before taking his leave. Lana paused for a few seconds, hiding herself in the huge hands of his. She quickly snapped through it, refusing her emotions to persuade her to be impulsive and stood up, heading back into the building as she decided to focus entirely on work but spaced out from most of the day, as her mind kept thinking about the kiss over and over again.
