Chapter 4

Listening to these words, I felt as if my heart had been struck with a gaping hole, with cold wind whistling through it.

Three years ago, Felicity was trapped in an office rigged with explosives. Everyone was afraid to make a move, fearing that one wrong action could detonate the device and lead to even more severe consequences.

The old lady, her face streaming with tears, clutched my hand and begged desperately, almost falling to her knees before me.

"Please, Alec. Auntie knows you're a good boy. You've been with our Felicity for so long. Surely you can't bear to see her die in vain?"

"Aren't you a bomb disposal expert? Isn't this your specialty? Felicity is your girlfriend. You can't just stand by and watch her die!"

"I promise you, as long as Felicity is safe, you'll be the only son-in-law I'll ever acknowledge for the Everhart family. I'll treat you like my own son!"
