Hearing those words, I felt a tremor in my heart, but I managed to speak calmly.
"Doctor Rockwell? Why are you still at my house?"
"I don't understand what you're talking about."
Draven crossed his arms, smirking as he sat down on the edge of my bed, his eyes boring into mine.
"You might fool Felicity, but you can't fool me. I'm the most skilled ophthalmologist in this city."
"You came to our hospital for a check-up yesterday. Even though you didn't come to my office, all the doctors' computers are connected to the examination rooms. Did you think I wouldn't see your test results?"
"Why do you think you saw that scene outside my office yesterday?"
Hearing this, I instantly understood everything.
Draven had planned it all.
Knowing I had regained my sight, he deliberately called Felicity to the hospital, intentionally letting me witness their intimate moment in the office.
Even his insistence on coming home for dinner yesterday and flirting with Felicity at the table was all part of his scheme.
Seeing the dawning realization in my eyes, Draven's face broke into a wide grin, and he continued with even more smugness. "I know Felicity once promised you that she'd marry you when you got better, but......"
His voice paused, deliberately drawing out the final syllable.
"Now her heart and eyes are filled with me. Do you think she'd still marry a cripple like you?"
Seeing that I didn't respond, Draven stood up, preparing to leave.
Just as he reached the doorway, he turned to look at me once more.
"Oh, by the way, it's the weekend. Tonight, Felicity and I are going back to the family estate to have dinner with her mom."
"I forgot to tell you, every weekend you thought Felicity went back to the estate alone, I was actually with her."
"If you're not convinced, you can come to the estate and see for yourself. After all, Felicity's mom still has the final say on who becomes the Everhart family's son-in-law."
Having said this, Draven left the room without so much as a glance back at me.
My hands clenched into tight fists, my nails nearly piercing my palms.
I knew Felicity went back to the family estate for dinner every weekend.
But since I lost my sight, Felicity, worried about making me uncomfortable, always went back by herself out of concern for my feelings. So, were all those weekends she claimed to be going back to the family estate alone actually spent with Draven?
In the afternoon, as usual, Felicity called me.
"Sweet Alec, I'm going back to the family estate for dinner today. Be a good boy and wait for me at home. I'll come back to keep you company after dinner."
In the past, I would always obediently agree.
But today, I suddenly felt the urge to ask her.
"Felicity, are you going back alone?"
Felicity paused on the other end of the line, then chuckled softly to reassure me.
"You're not here, so who else would I be with? Be good, I'll be back as soon as I can."
Listening to the dial tone after she hung up, my heart ached terribly.
Felicity, how many more lies do you have that I don't know about?
Thinking about this, I got up and changed clothes, preparing to go to the family estate.
The car the boss sent to pick me up isn't arriving until tomorrow, so there's still time.
As I was leaving, I took a long look at the white cane behind the door. After hesitating for a while, I decided to take it with me.
To avoid ruining the plan, I couldn't let Felicity know I had recovered before I left.
By the time I arrived at the old mansion, they had already started eating. The elderly lady stroked Draven's hand with obvious delight, while urging Felicity to serve him more food.
"Draven, dear, you must eat plenty. I'm still waiting for you and Felicity to give me a great-grandson, so you can't skimp on your meals."
"I look at you and think you're perfect in every way. Not like that blind fool - a grown man sitting at home all day, he's nothing but a good-for-nothing!"
