The ruins stood in silence, but Kael felt the echoes of a battle that had taken place long before his time before his sealing. The knowledge burned within him now, his past unraveling like a tapestry of betrayal and lost power.
Aetherion, the Timekeeper.
The name sent a shiver through him. Someone who had once been his equal perhaps even a disciple had turned against him. Had he trusted Aetherion? Had they fought side by side before that ultimate betrayal?
Kael didn't know. Yet.
But he would.
And when he did the one who had chained him in time would face judgment.
The energy from the awakening gate still crackled in the air around him, the light now dimming. Whoever had built this place had left it behind as a message a warning, or a test.
But Kael was no longer alone.
In the distance, he felt something stirring.
It wasn't the Shadeborn.
It was something bigger.
He turned, scanning the ruins. The Forsaken Lands had been silent for too long. Now, after his awakening, the world was taking notice.
And it was sending its first challenger.
A deep rumble echoed through the land. Dust fell from crumbling structures. A shadow moved beyond the stone pillars, something massive shifting through the remains of an empire lost to time.
Then, a voice low, guttural, ancient.
"Who dares awaken the echoes of the past?"
Kael narrowed his eyes. A figure emerged from the darkness, its shape barely humanoid.
Its body was formed from obsidian and molten gold, its veins glowing with ancient runes. A Titanborn.
A guardian of the old world.
Kael felt a memory stir a faint whisper from the past.
These creatures had once served him. They had knelt before the Celestial Sovereign.
But now, it stood as a challenger.
"You are not him." The Titanborn's golden eyes flickered. "And yet you wear his power."
Kael exhaled. His body still ached from the battle with the Shadeborn. His command over time was growing, but it wasn't yet stable.
This fight wouldn't be easy.
But he had no intention of losing.
"Stand aside, guardian," Kael said, his voice calm but unwavering. "Or be reminded why your kind once knelt before me."
The Titanborn chuckled, a sound like grinding stone.
"Then prove you are worthy, Sovereign of Ashes."
And with that, it charged.
