Chapter 12: Sovereign of Ashes

The ground shook as the Titanborn lunged. Its massive frame, woven from obsidian and molten gold, blurred with unnatural speed. Kael barely had time to react before a fist the size of a boulder came crashing down.

Boom!

The earth exploded beneath the impact, sending debris flying. Kael twisted mid-air, barely avoiding the shockwave that rippled out like a tidal wave of destruction.

This wasn't just a guardian. It was a war relic, a remnant of an era where beings had torn apart stars to settle their disputes.

And it wanted him dead.

Kael landed on a broken pillar, his mind racing. His power over time had awakened, but it was still unstable. His last battle had nearly drained him. If he used too much, it might tear his body apart.

The Titanborn turned, its molten veins glowing brighter.

"You hesitate." Its voice was like rolling thunder. "The real Celestial Sovereign would not."

Kael exhaled slowly. The creature was testing him. Weighing his worth.

Fine.

He would remind it who he was.

Kael stepped forward, raising a single hand.

"Kneel."

For an instant, time buckled.

The Titanborn froze mid-step, its molten glow flickering as if its entire existence had been thrown into uncertainty. Kael's eyes burned silver, his very presence pressing down like the weight of an era returning to claim its throne.

But then resistance.

The Titanborn shook violently, breaking free, its golden veins surging with defiance. This was no mere mortal. It had endured gods, wars, and destruction.

"You are strong," the Titanborn rumbled, charging again. "But you are not yet HIM."

Kael's pulse pounded. If he couldn't freeze it completely, he had to find another way.

He narrowed his focus. Instead of stopping time, he would accelerate his own.

He moved.

The world blurred. The Titanborn swung but Kael was already behind it. Faster than sight. Faster than sound.

His blade sang through the air, slashing across the Titanborn's molten body. A shockwave erupted from the impact, sending golden embers flying.

The Titanborn staggered.

For the first time, its voice lowered.

"That power it truly is yours."

Kael stood firm, breathing heavily. His body ached, but his power was stabilizing. Growing.

The Titanborn took a step back. Then, slowly, it knelt.

"You are not yet whole, Sovereign but you are returning." The guardian's golden eyes flickered. "And so, the echoes awaken."

Kael's fingers curled. The Titanborn had recognized him not as a pretender, but as the one who had been lost to time.

But if this was only an echo, then what was still waiting out there?

The ruins trembled again, but this time, it wasn't from battle.

It was something far away.

Kael felt it a ripple in the fabric of the world. Like a door creaking open after being locked for eons.

Something else had awakened.

And it was looking for him.
