At about the same time, while Berlin's mind was working out a separation plan, several other people of hers were busy plotting.
In a quiet café, a man sat across from a young woman, holding a glass of water.
Tasha kept her phone in her pocket and peered out the window from time to time.
She found it strange. The man still had his Cape on.
He glanced at the small device in his hand before sliding it toward her.
"Keep this with you for now. You'll receive further instructions," he said in a low voice before standing up and walking away.
The woman, Tasha, picked up the device with confusion. Just then, her phone rang. She placed it against her ear, waiting for the caller to speak.
"Hello, Miss Bane."
"Who is this? Who are you?! What am I supposed to do with this?" Tasha inquired in an annoyed tone. Dropping the camera into her bag.
"I ask the questions. Do you have a problem with that?"
"No...it isn't going to be one, I understand what you have been trying to say from the start. However, " Tasha paused and let out a deep sigh. "I want to know to what I owe this call. Why you have chosen me? This offer you're giving me? Do not tell me that it is because you want me back with my man or that you care for me so much," Tasha teased before clearing her throat to sound serious. "Tell me why you need me?"
"Miss Bane, thankfully you know when and when not to joke. There is something brewing and your help is much needed. And as the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my ally."
"Something like what?"
"Technically not a what but a who." hearing this, Tasha did not know how to react. She had so many enemies prior and so she did not know which one, in particular, he was talking about.
"Who is this person then?"
"Well, the only person to have stolen from you and still stood proudly today. It is no other person than your best friend, Berlin Wayne."
"Berlin?!"
"Berlin Wayne, Miss Bane. Berlin Wayne. She had something that you don't have." The strange man repeated the name to her hearing, so she could understand the grave danger.
All these while, Tasha had been thinking that Berlin was a weakling, an easy threat, a gullible opponent, an orphan, a nobody and when she was done with that bitch and she was finally gone, she had everything and all it took to win Karlos back. It was either she tried to be seductive, persuasive or remind him of the times she had spent together and she will be forgiven and taken back in the long run.
Regardless of whichever method she used, she hadn't fully lost hope that he would probably come around again and want or need her.
"What do you mean by Berlin?, What does she have that I don't, Mister? How can that thief take what's mine" Tasha's mind fell into chaos instantly.
Here she thought that there was no worthy love rival between herself and Karlos. 'Is it possible that Berlin has broken through Karlos's barrier and captured his heart?' she thought.
It was only natural that Tasha felt threatened by the sudden thought of Karlos Wayne falling in love with another woman.
"Calm down, Miss Bane"
"How can I be calm at such a time like this? How do you even know all this? And how sure that it's true? It is not even funny one bit I mean it. What am I going to do if I lose him?" At this moment, she was panicking at such possibilities.
"That's enough, Miss Bane!" The man yelled into the phone, finally getting her attention. " You have grown and learned a lot but not up to the stage of concealing your desires, your pains and feelings from him. Don't worry, we will make it right and fix your pain and all you have to do is complete your part of the bargain."
"Fine. I'm in!" Tasha said nothing more and just allowed her thoughts to flow. It was not like she did not anticipate this to come. She did but hearing it firsthand wasn't what she was exactly happy about.
Honestly, she loved this stranger's thinking. It's a pity, Berlin chooses to be his enemy. Without even knowing who he is. How pathetic.
"Miss Bane, Never underestimate the power of a common goal. Just do as I have said and let the rest play out accordingly. You will figure out what to do with that device, soon enough." The man instructed and the call ended and Tasha's eyes dimmed further as she stared at nothing in particular. Allowing evil thoughts to run through her mind without restrictions.
"I will teach her a lesson, she will soon not forget...Wait for me Berlin. Wait and be ready to face my wrath.
****
In no time Berlin was ready to head out.
But she needed someone who could advise her. She wanted to think this out thoroughly. Even though her mind seemed made up. It wouldn't hurt trying.
The only person she could properly trust to advise her was Mrs. Lydia. Mrs. Lydia was far more older than Berlin.
Although Berlin had more years of life if one accounted for her reincarnation.
Mrs.Lydia had single-handedly raised her two children when her husband passed away, facing hardships and gaining experience in her life. She would be able to help her.
She could not confess every single detail to Mrs. Lydia. She thought Berlin was a normal girl.
'I am actually reborn. I'm thinking of going through a divorce Contract with your only son. You were killed by my best friend and I believe your son does not love me and the divorce is a stepping milestone. Do you think I will be able to win this time? There was no way she could say such things.
"Mom, I need to make an important decision right now... I want your input" Berlin wanted to phrase it in a different context to Mrs
Lydia who sat in front of her.
"Ok, I'm all ears."
"There are two shoes that I have. One is old and the other is new. If I do wear the old one, I know what will happen to me. I will end up suffering a lot and I will live a hard life but at least I know what's going to happen to me.
However, I can try and attempt to wear the new shoes. I have no idea whether I might feel worse or better, and gain the comfortable life I have always wanted. But the probability that I can end up living a life worse. And far more uncomfortable than I anticipated."
"Well...if it were me, I would take my chances and wear the new shoe."
"...You didn't hesitate or even think it through?"
"Didn't you say that you are well aware of what will take place if you wear the old shoe? To make it worse, it will be a life full of sadness.
In such a situation a situation I will take a gamble. Even if the new shoe leads to a worst-case scenario, At I won't feel unfulfilled because I tried both shoes at the end."
"Unfulfilled..."
"And if you're already aware of your future, wouldn't that be boring? Life is only interesting when you don't know what to expect. Even if one feels lonely today, tomorrow they could have someone they can lean on. This is why people can only live on with hope in their hearts."
"Mom, I am quite impressed. This talk has been of great help more than you can imagine."
"Glad I could help,"
As Mrs. Lydia put it, this was a gamble. A gamble with her life on the line, and that of her mother-in-law and the head maid.
If she were to succeed in divorcing Karlos, her life would change completely. She would be guaranteed no emotional hurt and stress. Her goal to take revenge on her best friend, the Caldwells and the mystery man helping Tasha, was not such a faraway dream any longer. The life she had lived in her past life had been devastating. She wanted a life devoid of evil backstabbers.
After saying their goodbyes, hugs, and kisses, Berlin left the Wayne estate.
Before she could change her mind, she hurried off, heading straight for the divorce office.
She didn't ask Raymond, the driver, to take her. She didn't let the guards follow. She wanted to do this alone.
Finally, she got a cab and it took almost two hours to get there. According to her memory, this was the place.
Everything was sailing smoothly up to this point. When she faced the cream-like office building.
As she was about to Cross the road
and walk inside, all the courage she had worked up, shriveled into tiny pieces. But she slowly mustered a little courage and She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
Then—
BANG!
A car hit her.
Berlin barely had time to react. She had been lost in her own thoughts, unaware of the speeding car. and before she could process what had happened, everything went dark.
The driver who was being yelled at by his boss to hurry up,turned to talk to his boss, telling him they were almost there.
When he looked back, it was too late. He
accidentally hit someone.
The driver's face went pale. He jumped out of the car, rushing toward her.
A woman lay unconscious on the ground.
She was wearing a wedding ring.
