As I moved quickly along the seabed, I tried to spot something... unusual? Although searching the ocean originally sounded rather silly, but at least searching the nearby areas was possible. That's why I was doing all this.
And my actions were not in vain. I saw some kind of cave that didn't look very natural. And if it was artificially created here, then someone needed it.
Accelerating myself with magic, I moved there quite quickly. However, already at the entrance to the rather large cave, I felt something not far from me... big and obviously dangerous.
Abruptly pressing myself against the rocks at the entrance to the cave, I noticed a monster rushing past me. A huge reptilian-like creature, with some sort of metal armour on its head quickly swam out of the cave, heading in the opposite direction of my ship.
Hmm, I must be at the right place. Which means it's safe to go inside.
Swimming inside rather quickly, I immediately saw several forks in front of me. And in this case I had no choice but to trust my intuition. Moving to the tunnel that seemed to me the most correct, I swam forward.
The tunnel got narrower and narrower with distance, until it became more human in size. Eventually I swam out to the exit of the water. When I surfaced, I saw a cave, but no longer underwater. This would be even easier, especially against the Atlanteans.
Using the same magic to dry my things, I moved forward, trusting my intuition again. And it led me to a much more settled place.
In the midst of the rocks were even more modern machines than I had seen in my life. There were steel plates attached to the walls, and on them some strange mechanisms. There were also some pretty sturdy-looking doors. Now how am I supposed to get through quietly?
- Hmm, it's not locked," I whispered, opening the door with ease. I had to be careful, this could very well be a trap after all.
As I carefully made my way inside, I saw the base, filled with a variety of equipment that was quite different from what I was used to. As far as I know, Atlantis' technology is superior to human technology, so it all adds up.
All that's left is to find my opponents. Unless there are monsters like the ones I saw at the entrance, I shouldn't have any problems here.
Quietly walking further, I heard voices, but their language was unknown to me, which was strange, as I perfectly understood all known earthly languages, including ancient ones. All right, let's listen.
I listened to them for about ten minutes and began to understand what exactly they were talking about. Is that the power of genius intellect? Though I don't use it very often, to be honest.
But from the looks of it, they were discussing some mundane news, something about the new ruler and the state of their homeland. I'll keep listening for now.
Rather stupidly, I've basically been hiding in the enemy base for almost an hour now, listening to the two guards talk, and trying to understand their language. Now, though, I almost completely understand their words now. But let's wait for now, maybe something important will appear in their conversation.
- Wait, there's an order from the boss," one of them said. While I was listening to them, I gave him the nickname politician. He told me most of all about how things should be in the country, and nobody knows how to rule but him, and he's an expert.
- What is it? - asked the second one. I decided to call him offended, because he complained about everything. The water is dirty, the fish aren't the same, the Atlanteans have changed, he doesn't like everything.
- Arthur Curry attacked our brothers again, not far from here. That's why Corum Rath said to sit tight and keep a low profile for now," the politician muttered. Corum Rath was their boss, I gathered from their conversations. and they weren't too happy with him.
- 'Ahem, yes we would have defeated that fake king quietly, what is Corum Rath afraid of. He's not so good anymore, he used to be much more determined," said the offended one, not forgetting to complain about life again.
- He was. We spent so much time preparing this operation against the land dwellers until that fake king came along and got in our way. If it wasn't for that, we would have destroyed several of their cities with those bombs long ago," the politician answered him, revealing something very interesting. Looks like it's about time I showed up. We'll have to capture them and interrogate them, at least one of them.
- Exactly. I would... Khaaaa," the offended one started to say, but cried out in pain as the water spears stabbed into his chest, killing him almost instantly.
When I looked at them, I realised that they were quite different from normal humans and Atlanteans. They had strange growths on their skin, and they were ugly enough for humans.
The politician raised his spear sharply at the sight of me, firing a blast of plasma or something similar.
Dodging it with ease, I quickly jerked closer to him, using my right hand to direct a jet of fire at him. However, my opponent covered himself from it with a water shield, which he created instantly as well. Apparently he can do something after all.
But I'm already close to him, so he doesn't stand a chance. I activate double acceleration and deliver a few blows to him. Despite the armour, it's still going to hurt him, especially with my strength. I have to weaken my blows so I don't just kill him, since I wanted to capture a prisoner for interrogation.
My opponent tries to block my blows somehow, covering himself with his spear, and the water he was able to control. However, I notice. that my control over water is much stronger, giving me the ability to block his water magic.
With a few more blows, I knock him down, then immediately braid him with earth on all sides, leaving only his head free for him to answer my questions.
- You'll answer my questions," I said rather gruffly and most likely with an accent, because I'm not used to speaking the Atlantean language.
- Overlander! - I'll never surrender to people like you!
After he said that, he just bit his tongue right off. My interrogation had failed. It was good that I decided to follow them for a while and listen to their conversations. Although I did it to understand their language, I still heard some interesting information.
After finishing off my opponent with a water spear, I moved on. Our fight didn't take long, and there was hardly any noise. Still, it's a good thing those spears of theirs are quiet enough.
Moving on, I saw some computers with some rather strange symbols on them, apparently in the language of Atlantis. There was also a tablet with the same symbols lying nearby, which I decided to borrow to study. I guess it should be okay in the water, since it was made in Atlantis.
As I walked along the end, I noticed another door, newly opened. It led into a rather large room, which was a huge cave with a large lake in the middle of it. Perhaps this was where the Atlanteans saddled their monsters before going hunting.
But I still wonder what they did to the humans. According to the witness, they didn't attack them, they did something strange. Most likely, they wanted to move them somehow, and by doing so, they summoned more monsters. Well, or they were doing something else.Either way, what exactly were they doing? Killing them, taking them as slaves, or something else... Hmmm.....
But just as I was thinking, someone floated up out of the water. Luckily, at that moment I was near a small ledge behind which he couldn't see me. After another second, a second Atlantean surfaced. Together they climbed out of the water and started chatting.
- Why did they send us there in the first place? No one knows about this place, so there's no point in guarding it," the first one said in an irritated tone.
- The king's slaves had been snooping around there recently, so the boss decided to check it out. I've heard that they want to send someone who has done something wrong there, and for a long time," the second one answered him, moving towards me.
- Yeah, I don't know why those bombs are still sitting there. You could have used them a long time ago," Atlante said, overtaking his friend and unfortunately almost reaching the place where I was hiding, "And these people... Hey, what the...?
My precise blow quickly severed his head. Still, hitting the throat of an opponent not expecting an attack is a very effective use of the water blade. Although I had originally planned to just slit his throat instead of chopping off his head, but that's even better.
Immediately after that, I quickly approach the second one and try to do the same. However, he manages to put a block on some sort of watch-like apparatus on his arm. At the same second, water bursts out from there, protecting his arm.
But I also quickly made a second strike, launching a fireball into his face. And then he didn't have time to do anything, a second later he fell to the ground with his face half burnt off.
- Oh, man, I forgot to keep one alive and interrogate him," I said irritably, remembering that one of them had said something about humans. So maybe they're still alive, but I need to find more information.
The cave seems to end here, but I need to check this passage as well. It's possible that it leads to another branch where there's something too.
I jumped into the water, and swam forward through the tunnels. There were quite a few branches. Most of them were dead ends, but I didn't waste much time because I was moving fast.
After a couple more of these branches, I came to something interesting. Some kind of plants, and the cave was quite large, though completely filled with water. There's some sort of claw marks on the walls, but no. It doesn't look like someone rubbed it with claws, but rather... the kind of growths that the monster that swam out of here recently had.
Hmm, I wonder if there's something inside this algae. Maybe there's something interesting in there.
As I got closer to them, I carefully swam inside, only to be met with the carcass of another monster a few seconds later. It was just staring at me at the moment, even without much aggression. But I don't really believe in its pacifism. Also, it's quite strange that I didn't sense it, not with intuition, not magically.
As long as he wasn't aggressive, I decided to walk away from him, seeing that he wasn't bothering me. However, something else got in my way. I sensed that something was going to burst in here in a second. And that something was another one of those half-fish, half-crocodile things. And it had a rider on it.
They swam in here, and I met the rider's eyes. And now it's clear that we can't do without a fight... I guess it's time to test my strength against this thing....
