Chapter 24: I Don't Understand Humans

Wen Chi finally gave in under Suisui's complaint. Firstly, he just couldn't bear Suisui's aggrieved little eyes. Secondly, he suspected that if he really made Suisui cry, he might not even be able to step out of this thatched cottage. He would probably be "killed" with stares before crossing the threshold.

"So the points really have to be multiplied by 0.75?" Wen Chi let out a soft sigh.

Suisui, who had already got Wen Chi wrapped around her little finger, happily went to eat with Jian Lin. Xia Kai comforted Wen Chi and became more and more excited as he talked: "This is a good thing! Think about the live stream this morning. Without Suisui, you wouldn't have got a single thing. So, Suisui is like your 'cheat code'. You don't have to worry about going hungry now!"

Wen Chi glanced at him and said in a flat tone, "Thanks. I feel kind of offended."

"Don't laugh secretly. I saw you," Xia Kai said and burst out laughing when he was found out.

"I think you've become much more energetic since Suisui came. Really!" Xia Kai slapped Wen Chi on the shoulder.

Wen Chi didn't say anything.

Xia Kai continued, "Come on, just accept it! Maybe you'll become popular again this time!"

"I'm not doing this to become popular," Wen Chi explained seriously.

"Okay, okay. I got it," Xia Kai quickly changed the topic. "By the way, Director Jian just had some food delivered. Do you want to eat? Anyway, the shooting is suspended today, so it's not a violation."

"...Yes,"

They had to take a car to the program team's base to have a meal. Wen Chi had been in the deserted forest for three days. As soon as he left the forest and arrived at the village with brick and tile houses, he suddenly felt like he was back in the civilized world.

As soon as they got out of the car, Xia Kai greeted them and then ran away in a flash. Wen Chi slowly followed behind and walked into the yard. The corners of his mouth tightened unconsciously, and the cold aura around him became a bit stronger, as if he had put up an invisible barrier between himself and others.

There were a lot of people coming and going in the yard of the program team's headquarters. When the staff saw Wen Chi, they all made a detour. Those who couldn't avoid him deliberately turned their heads aside and pretended not to see him. Wen Chi was used to it and didn't even bat an eyelid.

There were four big round tables set up in the yard. A temporary awning was built in the corner of the house. Several tables were lined up against the wall, with piles of meat and vegetables like small mountains, and there were also several gas stoves... These were all brought by the master chefs who held banquets in the village. Many villagers also came to help. They thought they could earn a little money by just lending a hand easily, and they were all smiling from ear to ear. Looking at this scene, one would think it was a wedding banquet in the village.

Wen Chi was stunned. Was this what Xia Kai called "had some food delivered"?

Xia Kai suddenly appeared from somewhere. "Were you shocked? Jian Lin said that she just arranged this this morning. She originally wanted to treat the police and experts to a meal, but they were in a hurry to leave, so she changed it to a reward banquet for us! The ingredients were all bought from the villagers, homegrown and organic, pollution-free. We're really lucky!" Xia Kai swallowed his saliva and started mumbling again, "We're going to get at least four more advertisers soon. Since the sponsors are paying, of course we should have a big meal! You've only been drinking water in the mountains these days and have lost a lot of weight. Even if you eat until you vomit, you probably won't gain much weight... Oh, no, no. It's not good for your stomach to overeat suddenly after being hungry for so long..."

Wen Chi walked forward on his own. Xia Kai was still mumbling and searching on his phone for "how much is appropriate to eat after being hungry for a long time".

Xia Kai was so focused that he didn't even notice that Wen Chi had walked a long way. However, after Xia Kai made a fuss for a while, the sense of alienation on Wen Chi's body faded a bit. Wen Chi looked around intentionally or unintentionally, as if he was looking for something.

Suddenly, his eyes stopped - In the middle of the lively crowd, Suisui was sitting cross-legged on a bamboo chair, holding a rainbow lollipop bigger than her face, eating leisurely and happily, looking like a cheerful little Buddha. Surrounding her were many people, three layers inside and three layers outside. Most of them were holding their mobile phones and taking pictures of Suisui like crazy.

"Wow, she's so cute, like a little puppy."

"Cutie pie, hehe, cutie pie, hehehe."

"Her skin is so white and tender. Won't it break if you poke it... Don't glare at me. I'm just kidding."

"Ah ah ah! She's looking over here! So cute! My heart is melting!"

Suisui looked strangely at these noisy uncles and aunts, not understanding why they were so excited. Was this the special hobby of humans outside the mountain? Alas, she really didn't understand. Suisui let out a soft sigh and crunched on the lollipop, her cheek puffing up on one side.

"Yah yah yah! She's just like a glutinous rice ball! Even eating is so cute!"

The audience was so enthusiastic that they turned this place into Suisui's personal "eating show"! Some people even took out snacks suitable for little cubs from their bags and tried to feed Suisui. Unfortunately, Jian Lin, who was guarding beside her, stopped them.

Jian Lin said seriously, "We'll have a meal soon! You can't eat too many snacks!"

"But didn't you, Director Jian, give her the lollipop..."

Jian Lin coughed awkwardly and shifted his gaze guiltily. When he suddenly saw Wen Chi, he immediately shouted, "Xiao Chi, you're here!"

This shout made not only the people around look over, but also Suisui look up in surprise!

"Xiao Chi, Xiao Chi!" Suisui grinned, showing her small white teeth, and was about to jump down from the bamboo chair. The people close to her wanted to reach out to help her, but Suisui nimbly dodged.

"I can do it myself!" Suisui said seriously and then jumped down nimbly and ran to Wen Chi.

Suisui's cheeks were puffy and she asked, "Where have you been? I've been looking for you for a long time! I thought you were going to leave me behind again!"

Although Suisui said it casually, the word "leave" made many people feel sour in their hearts, and many people secretly envied Wen Chi.

Wen Chi was immune to these looks and just lowered his eyes lightly. "I'm here now."

"Humph!" Suisui snorted with her mouth, but her eyes were smiling. She also generously held up the rainbow lollipop high and asked, "Do you want to eat?"

Wen Chi shook his head.

"Okay," Suisui took another big bite of the lollipop and continued crunching.

Soon it was time to have a meal. Everyone sat down. Wen Chi chose a seat near the end of the table for the directors and artists. As soon as he sat down, Suisui followed him like a little tail and sat down next to him.

The chair was a bit high for Suisui. Wen Chi was just about to say, "Do you need me to help..." But before he could finish, Suisui had already sat down steadily.

"What?" Suisui looked confused, and her mouth was stained colorful by the lollipop.

Wen Chi swallowed the rest of the sentence and said softly, "Nothing."
