Chapter 25: The Black Air of the Bracelet

In the morning, Wen Chi was sound asleep when he was suddenly woken up by a knock on the door.

Last night, it was quiet and peaceful. After having a big meal and filling his starving stomach, he should have been able to have a good sleep. But he just couldn't fall asleep. One moment, he thought the thatched cottage was too quiet; the next moment, he thought the chirping of insects outside was too noisy. Anyway, he just couldn't get comfortable. After tossing and turning for most of the night, it was almost dawn when he finally dozed off. But not long after that, he was woken up again.

Tortured by insomnia, Wen Chi got up like a wandering ghost and staggered to open the door.

As soon as the door opened, he saw Suisui looking up with her little face, her eyes shining brightly like two twinkling gems. She shouted crisply, "Xiao Chi, Xiao Chi! I'm here!"

"Uh... uh, come in," Wen Chi mumbled and, without even opening his eyes, turned around and "floated" back to the bed, burying his head in the quilt and falling into a deep sleep again.

Suisui was confused: (⊙?⊙)

She followed him into the room, leaned over the side of Wen Chi's bed, and tugged at him. "Xiao Chi! The sun is shining on your butt!"

Wen Chi didn't move a muscle.

Suisui was startled and thought, "What's wrong with Xiao Chi? Could he be dead?" She leaned closer to Wen Chi and stretched her head to feel his breath. Fortunately, fortunately, he was still breathing. Whew.

"Xiao Chi is a piggy," Suisui thought of the piglets she saw at the villagers' houses. They slept so soundly that no one could wake them up, just like Wen Chi now.

What could she do? Since she was the little ginseng spirit who saved the predestined ones, she just had to spoil him! Suisui imitated the adults and patted her skinny little shoulders, sighing to herself, "I'm really working hard!"

...Hey, wait a minute. Where did that stinky smell come from?

Suisui sniffed and blinked her eyes, looking everywhere for the source of the smell. Well, it wasn't exactly a stinky smell. It was more like a rotten smell that made Suisui dislike and resist it from the bottom of her heart, as if she had encountered a natural enemy.

Suisui sniffed around the room like a little puppy. Finally, on the cabinet in the corner, she found a bracelet. It was made of huanghuali wood, but Suisui didn't recognize it. She just thought the bracelet was dirty and there was a faint black air floating on it. It looked so disgusting that she just wanted to pinch her nose and stay away from it.

But her intuition told her that this black air was very bad for Xiao Chi.

What should she do? Suisui wrinkled her little eyebrows and hesitated for a while before holding her breath and slowly approaching it.

"Stinky," Suisui's little face almost wrinkled into a bitter gourd.

Finally, she gritted her teeth, suppressed her disgust, stood on tiptoe, took off the bracelet, and pinched it with two fingers. Then she dashed to Wen Chi's bedside.

"Xiao Chi, this bead is so stinky. Let me throw it away for you!"

In his sleepy dream, Wen Chi vaguely heard someone chattering in his ear. Impatiently, he turned his face to the other side and mumbled, "Uh... throw it away..." As long as they didn't disturb his sleep.

"Okay!"

With an important task on her shoulders, Suisui rushed out of the yard like a happy little rabbit and ran to the nearby woods.

When Xiao Shan smelled her scent, he crawled out of the bushes and came up to Suisui cheerfully. Suddenly, Xiao Shan saw the bracelet in Suisui's hand. His animal instinct made him sense the danger, and he let out a low growl from his throat. It wasn't the kind of coquettish growl he usually made to Suisui. At this moment, he was like a fierce jungle beast, ready to pounce!

"Roar!" Xiao Shan seemed to be roaring and warning Suisui - Throw it away quickly!

"Don't worry! It can't hurt me!" Suisui looked at the thin black air surrounding the bracelet. It was like several deadly black snakes trying to bite her fingers. But the black air was no match for her. As soon as it got close, it shattered, and when it regrouped, its color had faded a lot.

Suisui was a thousand-year-old ginseng spirit and the beloved of the Heavenly Dao. How could she be easily hurt? If the black air dared to provoke Suisui, it would be asking for trouble. It couldn't hurt Suisui at all but would only exhaust itself.

Actually, if Suisui wore the bracelet for a day, she could surely purify all the black air on it. But Suisui wouldn't do it. It was too stinky, and she didn't want to put up with it!

"This bad thing! Let's throw it away quickly!"

Although she said she would throw it away, Suisui looked around and hesitated. Where should she throw it? What if it hurt the flowers and plants?

"Uh," Suisui was hesitating when Xiao Shan was very clever. He pushed a big stone over with his head and whined twice, as if giving Suisui an idea.

"That's right! Let's smash it!"

With the tacit cooperation of Suisui and Xiao Shan, the huanghuali bracelet finally cracked with a "crack". The black air was floating and rootless. Without support, it dissipated automatically after a while. The remaining part had no power left, and Suisui threw it away casually.

After dealing with the bracelet, Suisui finally had time to care about Xiao Shan.

"Xiao Shan, have you eaten enough? Have other animals bullied you? If so, remember, I'll take care of them for you!"

Xiao Shan was like a calm big brother, listening quietly to Suisui's chatter. No matter how noisy she was, he accepted it all.

Seeing that it was getting late, Suisui should go back to the cottage.

"Xiao Shan, don't worry. I'll find a chance to take you with me!" Suisui opened her arms and hugged Xiao Shan's neck tightly, reluctant to let go.

Since she met the skinny Xiao Shan, Suisui had been feeding him with spiritual grass every day. She had never been separated from him for so long. But for the sake of becoming an immortal...

"When I become an immortal! I'll turn Xiao Shan into Little Xiao Shan and put him in my bag. I'll always carry him with me and never be separated again!" Suisui said firmly and promised earnestly. Although she didn't have the slightest idea how to make a dog smaller... But she would be an immortal. Surely she would be as omnipotent as the immortals on TV!

"Wait for me!"

Suisui walked forward two steps and then couldn't help looking back. She ran back and hugged Xiao Shan again. Then she set off again and looked back again. She repeated this three times before walking out of the woods step by step under Xiao Shan's gentle gaze and returning to the vicinity of the thatched cottage.

As soon as she approached the thatched cottage, she heard Wen Chi's anxious and angry scolding: "Suisui! Where have you been? Why did you run around without saying a word? Do you know that everyone has been looking for you like crazy?"

Suisui looked up with her little head, her eyes full of innocence. Looking at Wen Chi, who was sweating with anxiety, she replied weakly, "Uh... ah?"

Originally angry, Wen Chi was instantly calmed down by Suisui's pure eyes, which were like clear lake water. He coupped softly and wondered if he had been too fierce. Had he scared Suisui?

He peeked at Suisui secretly and saw that she wasn't crying or making a fuss. She was quiet. It seemed that she hadn't been scared. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you," Wen Chi lowered his head uncomfortably and apologized in a low voice.

Then, he put on a serious face and earnestly instructed, "Don't run around next time! Everyone is worried about you!" As he said this, Wen Chi tilted his head and gestured.

Suisui looked in the direction he pointed. Oh, there were the uncle and aunt who sent her here standing not far away!

Suisui felt the concern, worry, and relief from them after finding her. She glanced at Wen Chi again and understood most of it.

She clutched the corner of her clothes and said softly, "Sorry."

Looking at Suisui's soft and glutinous appearance, like a white and tender glutinous rice ball, Wen Chi couldn't get angry even if he wanted to.
