Chapter 87: The Glutton that Devours Everything
How many people are still alive? Reply if you're still here.
"What? They're not from Team Rocket?" Ron was stunned as he listened to Officer Jenny's report.
"Yes. According to our records, these people belong to a vicious group of poachers. They were probably pushed too far by Team Rocket's presence in Johto, so they came up with this desperate plan," Officer Jenny explained.
"Is it possible that this group of poachers has already been dismantled and absorbed by Team Rocket?" Ruby asked, frowning.
"It's unlikely. Although Team Rocket is an evil organization, they're straightforward when it comes to certain matters. At least when their members are captured or die like this, they'll always give the Pokémon League a proper explanation. Whether it's paying a high ransom or retaliating against the League after someone dies, they always give prior notice," Officer Jenny said.
Ron, Ruby, and Rosa were speechless. Aren't you supposed to be an evil organization? Why are you so upfront about everything?
"It seems Team Rocket really pushed these guys into a corner. Considering how famous your breeding house has become, Ron, there will probably be many groups targeting you," Rosa said.
"What's there to be afraid of? If they dare show up again, I won't hold back," Ron said, a cold glint in his eyes.
Though he still felt uneasy in his stomach, this incident made Ron see things more clearly. If he encountered such enemies again, he wouldn't hesitate.
After completing their statements with Officer Jenny, Ron and his friends continued toward Ecruteak City.
"Ruby, what's wrong?" Rosa asked curiously, seeing Ruby deep in thought along the way.
Ruby rolled his eyes and replied, "You think everyone is as carefree as you? I'm still having trouble getting over what happened."
Ron also nodded and said, "Take your time. After a while..."
Before he could finish, Ron's phone suddenly rang. When he answered, Lillie's voice came through: "Ron, can you come to Alola? We've run into some trouble here. We really can't handle the Ultra Beast that appeared this time."
"Sure. I'll help you solve your problem and take a break as well," Ron nodded.
Then he looked at Ruby and Rosa, saying, "I'm going to relax a bit. Want to come along?"
"Of course!" they both answered in unison.
A few days later, Ron and his friends arrived at Aether Paradise by plane, then immediately boarded another helicopter heading to Poni Island.
Once they reached Poni Island, a private car took them to Poni Canyon. Rosa looked around at the scenery and said, "This place is quite beautiful."
Ruby nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's a perfect place for a vacation."
"Enough chit-chat. We're here to deal with an Ultra Beast. My Pheromosa is also an Ultra Beast, so you know how powerful they are. Even Lillie and the others couldn't handle it this time, so it's bound to be serious trouble," Ron said seriously.
Upon reaching a large pit, the three got out of the car. Lillie and her group were already there. Lillie ran over and hugged Ron, saying, "This Ultra Beast is too powerful; we can't do anything about it. Thankfully, it's really interested in food. We've managed to lure it into this pit and keep supplying it with food, so it hasn't bothered anyone yet."
Ron nodded and approached the pit, looking down. When he saw the Ultra Beast, he took a sharp breath. Even though he had previously seen Primal Groudon and had become somewhat accustomed to giant Pokémon, this Ultra Beast was still shocking. Conservatively, it was nearly six meters tall, its dark body and enormous mouth on its belly easily recognizable as Guzzlord.
"Lillie, this pit...don't tell me..." Ron had a bad feeling.
"Yeah, it was created by it, bite by bite," Lillie nodded and continued, "We named it Guzzlord. Forget dirt and rocks, it even completely absorbs our Pokémon's attacks. We really have no way to deal with it."
Of course you don't! Ron sighed helplessly. This Guzzlord had clearly reached the realm of Legendary Pokémon. Its source power fluctuations were comparable to Ron's Mewtwo.
Moreover, if Ron's guess was correct, the power this Guzzlord comprehended was obviously "devouring." It would have been strange if Lillie's attacks had any effect.
Ruby and Rosa came to the edge of the pit and were instantly shocked. The pit was already over ten meters deep, yet Guzzlord was still constantly eating. When it got impatient, it would bite chunks from the pit walls, swallowing food, dirt, and rocks together into its stomach.
"This time we're in trouble. Can you please bring the Pokémon transfer device? I need to call Mewtwo over," Ron said, rubbing his forehead. "Also, what about Tapu Fini? Can we find it? And the Totem Pokémon of Poni Canyon? Bring it here too; this is really dangerous."
"I'll notify the Island Kahuna," Kiawe said, jumping onto his Charizard and leaving to find the Island Kahuna.
"Mallow and I will find the Totem Pokémon," Lana said as she and Mallow headed deeper into Poni Canyon.
"You all stay here; I'll go down and have a talk with it," Ron said.
Then he jumped into the deep pit, kicking off several protrusions in the rock wall before landing directly onto Guzzlord's back. Ron patted Guzzlord's head and said, "Hello, you're an Ultra Beast, right? Are you lost? Do you want me to send you back to your original place?"
Guzzlord stopped chewing and roared loudly. Its voice echoed in the pit, nearly rupturing Ron's eardrums. But Ron roughly understood it was saying the food here was good, so why should it return to that lousy place?
"But this isn't your home. If you had some restraint, you'd be welcome to stay here. But now you're destroying this place!" Ron said, trying to suppress his anger.
Guzzlord didn't reply. Instead, its two smaller arms swung toward Ron.
"Dragonite!" Ron released Dragonite, which swiftly carried him away from Guzzlord's body. Ron ordered, "Celebi, Perish Song!"
Celebi sang a strange melody, sending out a wave of black energy from its mouth. The red-black energy struck Guzzlord, but the space around its body strangely distorted, and the effects of Perish Song immediately disappeared.
"It can even devour that!" Ron was speechless. Even sound-based attacks could be swallowed—this source power was far too troublesome!
"Fini!" A clear call rang out, and Tapu Fini flew swiftly from the distance, stopping before Ron.
At the same time, the other three Tapu arrived as well. The four Tapu gathered around Ron, and suddenly his Master Ball opened, releasing Cosmoem into the air.
Tapu Lele nodded at Ron, signaling him to follow. Then the four Tapu left with Cosmoem.
Ron instantly understood. His Cosmoem had long since reached the evolution level but hadn't evolved yet. It seemed Cosmoem's evolution required not only levels but also specific conditions in reality.
He quickly informed the others, instructing the Aether Foundation personnel to keep feeding Guzzlord, and prepared to chase after the Tapu. However, three hands grabbed Ron.
Seeing Lillie's determined eyes and Ruby and Rosa's curious gazes, Ron sighed. He then released his Aerodactyl, which he had traded Wobbuffet for.
Dragonite carried Ron and Lillie, while Aerodactyl carried Ruby and Rosa. Together, the four of them swiftly pursued the four Tapu.
