" Her mother seemed to be a cunning, scheming woman. She was happy to send her to you and the vicious look that appeared on her when I announced your absence, was alarming" He added.
" Find out everything about that family by the end of today. Extend all your works to Gracie and continue with your investigation" Richard ordered going back to his work. Cheng looked at him one last time before walking out of the office. Richard raised his head and sighed heavily. He knows that people worldwide is scared of you so why in the world you a little girl like her accept the marriage? The question mark was left hanging on his head as his soulless eyes rolled.
Richard was typing madly at his computer, completely loosing track time when Cheng walked into the office with a long face.
" Sir! It's late" Cheng said calling his attention.
" So?" He asked nonchalantly.
" Sir, I think you should go back home and not make your newly bride wait for you for so long" Cheng said, making funny faces. On hearing that statement he paused, it was as if time froze for some seconds.
" What's the time?" He asked, closing his laptop.
" 12: 30 am" Cheng sighed. This was a normal for his boss to go home every day, while he sleep at the company sometimes when he has alot of work to do. Remembering the expression of the innocent girl, his boss got married to, he wonder how she will cope with rude behavior.
Richard hastily pack up this things and left with Cheng.
••••••
As Richard pulled into his driveway, he saw the silhouette of a woman laying down on the front porch. He recognized her immediately - it was his bride, waiting for him. He felt a pang of guilt, knowing that he had been hours late because of work. For the first time in his life he felt guilty about something. He hoped that she would understand, that she would know how important it was for him to be at the company. He got out of the car and walked towards her, bracing himself for the conversation that was to come.
When he got to her he found out that she was sleeping with her wedding gown still on her. He looked at her with sympathy and care for the very first time in his life. He gently carried her in a bridal style into the house.
" Butler Kim!!!!" Richard called out and an old man in his middle 50s with his eye glass on walked out from his room obviously shaking with fear.
" Why was she outside? Can't you see how cold her body is? What if something had happened to her?" He yelled but softened his voice in order not to wake the sleeping beauty in his arms.
" I tried telling her to come inside but she insisted on waiting for you outside on the porch until you come back" Kim stammered while explaining.
" It's your fault she stayed up all night. If you had come back home early for once or behaved like a normal human being would have behaved none of this would have happened. Make sure that nothing happens to her or else you will hear it for me and that's a promise" an old lady walked out for my room glaring at him angrily.
" Nanny Emmanuel! It wasn't my fault that I stayed up late. I had a lot of work to do at the company that I couldn't even give Cheng so it's not my fault that I had to stay up late. I had to finish all my work because we have a promotion in a week time and the presentations and everything I have to look into it and make sure that everything is perfect. It's not easy for me to be the CEO of a renowned company" he explained.
" I don't care. All I care about is the girl in your arms and once you drop her upstairs, we need to have a long chat. Who do you think you are to send your assistant to represent you on your own wedding day? Who does that? we would have a talk but that's after you drop her off then I'll be waiting for you in my room. Don't keep me waiting" Nanny Emmanuel said and walky into her room without waiting for his reply.
His sighed, he looked at Jenny in his arms and waved his head. Nanny Emmanuel is like a mother to him. She raised him for as long as he can remember, his parents never for once had his time. He didn't receive the love and care of his parents, it was only Emmanuel that stood by him through thick and thin and now she's the only one who has the rights to speak to him anyhow and go scot-free.
He walked up to your room and gently placed her on the bed. Richard's bedroom was neat and tidy, every item in its place. His closet was organized by color and style, and his dresser was perfectly aligned with his bedside table. There wasn't a speck of dust to be found, and even the light bulbs were dusted and shining brightly. Richard had always been a bit of a clean freak, but it had intensified as he got older. He felt like he needed everything to be just so, or else his whole world would fall apart.
Richard opened the door to his closet and stared at the rows of neatly hung clothes, looking for the perfect outfit for his bride. He ran his fingers over the fabric of each shirt, feeling the softness of the cotton and the crispness of the linen. He wanted to find something that would make her feel comfortable and at ease, something that would let her know how much he cared. Finally, he found the perfect shirt - a pale blue button-down, soft and breathable, with just the right amount of stretch.
He gently help her to change her clothes and during the process he found some bruises on her body while some on hands were still bleeding when he saw this.
He picked up his phone and called Cheng.
" I need the result of what I told you in the next 20 minutes and if she was truly bullied by her family, shutdown the family's business that will be their punishment for messing with my wife!" He said coldly as his blood boiled with anger.
