Chapter 04

Sunlight streamed through the massive windows, casting golden streaks across the lavish bedroom. Luan stirred, blinking groggily as he stretched out on the absurdly soft mattress. He had never slept in a bed this comfortable before.

It almost made him want to stay wrapped in the silk sheets forever. But today was important; sitting up, he ran a hand through his hair. "Finally, it's time to do some testing to see what these sigils can actually do."

Then Kian knocked on the door. "Young master, are you awake?" he politely asked.

"Yes, come in."

Opening the door, Kian entered, pushing a polished silver cart carrying an elaborate assortment of breakfast dishes and tea. "It's important to start the day with a good breakfast, and you have a lot to do. The madam ordered the chefs to go all out."

Luan looked at all the different foods that were on the cart; a smile appeared on his face. This felt like the breakfast of someone in the most luxurious suite in a five-star hotel, and here it was being delivered to him by a butler.

Basking in the glory for a while, he waited for Kian to place a towel and plate on his bed, and he started digging in.

"So Kian, today I just have to focus on going through that stack of papers and trying my sigils out?" Luan inquired.

"That is correct, young master." Kian said, pouring some tea for Luan. "This is tea exclusive to our territory, and it's of the best quality."

Accepting the teacup, Luan took a small sip to taste it, and he was surprised by how good it was. "This is amazing tea. Is there a reason why it's exclusive to our territory?"

"That is because of the climate and region; this plant has very specific requirements, and only our territory meets those after decades of conditioning and a specific sigil." Kian replied.

Luan nodded while enjoying the breakfast Kian brought.

Finishing his breakfast, Luan dressed himself; he opted for a more comfortable outfit. A white high-collared silk shirt, a black sleeveless vest, and black fitted, flexible trousers allowing for ease of movement.

"Alright, Kian, first I will do some testing of my sigils. Lead the way toward the backyard, please." Luan stated.

Kian bowed and exited the room, with Luan following. After going through some corridors, each one just as luxurious as the last, cleaned spotless from top to bottom.

'Nobles do care a lot about appearances, heh.' Luan mused, following Kian.

He could hardly wait to test out his sigils, the burning sensation when he awakened them still vivid in his mind.

Glancing at his hand he saw a golden crown on the back of his right hand proof that he had awakened a sigil.

Arriving at the backyard, what he saw was breathtaking: a huge backyard full of greenery and even a training field where knights and guards were training.

He really did come to a different world this breathtaking view made him realize it even more, not minding it too much he shook his head to clear his mind.

"Don't let anyone bother me unless it is urgent! I don't want any disturbances." Luan declared, sitting down with his legs crossed and closing his eyes.

Kian nodded, disappearing for a short moment, only to reappear a moment later. He just stood there on the lookout for any potential intruders and that no one would disturb Luan.

Luan was focused solely on understanding his sigils, starting with the one on his hand. 'If I remember correctly, you just have to try and activate the sigil and call out its name, and then the abilities and information should appear in my head, or at least that's how it was in the game.'

He sighed. 'But this isn't a game; this is real life, so I'll have to see if it works or not. I really hope it does work, or it's going to be a pain to master my sigils.'

After ranting a bit, he emptied his mind, focusing solely on the crown on the back of his right hand. 'Sigil of the Elven Monarch' he kept ruminating in his mind.

Nothing happened; he kept this cycle up for a while, emptying his mind, and he kept repeating the name of his sigil in his head.

Then he opened his eyes slowly and was surprised by what he saw: Kian and a dozen knights stood around him in a circle.

"What's going on here?" He mumbled, not expecting an answer.

Kian turned around and bowed. "I just called them over to make sure no one bothers you, young master; don't worry about them and keep going."

Luan was speechless. Kian was way too capable; he wanted him as his personal servant but wasn't sure if Hana would allow it. 'No harm in trying, right?'

"Good work, Kian. I have a question for you: how did you first activate your sigil or, um, like, find out its abilities?" Luan asked, making eye contact.

Kian tilted his head slightly, his hand moving to adjust the cuff of his sleeve as he thought. The silence stretched for a moment as his mind worked, then he met Luan's gaze.

"For me, I just did what you are doing currently: sitting down and focusing solely on the sigil. Just keep at it for a while longer; if still nothing happens, you can ask the madam for advice; she has a lot of connections."

"I see, thanks, Kian." Saying that, Luan closed his eyes again, making himself comfortable to resume.

Kian smiled slightly and turned around, keeping an eye on the surroundings, making sure nothing will go wrong.

Repeating the sigil's name while focusing on the mark on his hand, Luan finally felt something; he felt the crown mark heat up.

Meanwhile, the knights and Kian all turned around in unison, sensing something behind them. When they turned around, they saw the crown mark on Luan's right hand light up.
