Luan looked at his mom, then at all the servants standing in a line with perfect posture—none of them dared to be lax.
This was a huge opportunity: becoming the personal servant of the only son of the first wife of the Meskevela household was an honor, and they would get paid a hefty amount.
So they all wanted to get chosen by Luan, and they had heard what had happened at the sigil awakening ceremony; he would most likely become a very successful noble, so becoming his personal servant early on would only benefit them.
"Alright, Mom, where are the documents? I'll choose right now," he said, smiling.
"Not like I can do anything else; I'm not allowed to test out my sigils till tomorrow," he muttered.
Hana turned around with a bright smile on her face. "Did you say something, sweetie?"
But that smile looked scary to Luan, who felt the sweat drip down his forehead. "Nope, I said nothing. So where are all the documents about their info?"
Quickly changing the subject, Luan grabbed Hana's hand and dragged her along even though he had no clue what was in this huge mansion.
"They're all neatly arranged on the desk in your room, and Kian will call for any servants you want to question personally." Hana remarked.
"Make sure to only choose the best ones, Luan; this is important," she cautioned, a serious look on her face.
Luan nodded and saw an older man standing with perfect posture; the butler wore a traditional black suit, crisply pressed and finished with a white shirt and black tie. His short red hair was combed neatly, while his grey beard was trimmed to perfection. Offering a distinguished contrast to his striking red eyes. He carried himself with a composed elegance.
"Kian takes Luan to his room and helps him decide on which personal servants he should choose." Here, Hana ordered as she handed him her coat.
"Yes, my lady." Kian replied, respectfully taking her coat and folding it with precision before handing it to a maid that stood next to him.
The maid nodded and followed behind Hana as she left the entrance hall.
"Now, young master, follow me." Kian said respectfully.
Luan nodded and followed closely behind Kian, dumbfounded. 'This guy is the real deal; he acts like the people you see on TV.'
As they walked towards Luan's room, all the servants that were here to become Luan's personal servants followed at a reasonable distance behind Kian and Luan. All of them were walking nervously, but no one made a single sound; they all showed their best behavior.
Entering his room after Kian, Luan saw an enormous room with high vaulted ceilings. Stacks and stacks of paper lay neatly organized on an ornate wooden desk. On the other side of the room stood a king-sized bed with silk curtains, and next to it, a walk-in closet that looked bigger than his entire bedroom from his previous life.
His mouth agape, he just stared at all the papers. Turning toward Kian, he asked. "Am I supposed to go through every single one?"
"Yes, young master. Madam Meskevela has handpicked some of the best servants she could find, but she wanted to see how and based on what you would judge the servants. So I assume she picked too many to test you." Kian replied.
"How about this: you read through half, and I'll read through the other half, and then we both put forth which ones we think are worth considering and which ones aren't. If she told you to help me, I'm pretty sure I can trust your judgment."
Kian raised an eyebrow at Luan's idea; he had gotten the same task from the other madams for the first son and second son. But they both went through all the documents on their own.
Cracking a slight smile, Kian took a seat. "That's a wonderful idea, young master. Which half do you want me to look at?"
Luan took a seat opposite Kian and nonchalantly said. "Of course you look at the butlers; you're one yourself, so you should have better judgment than me."
Luan then proceeded to grab all the papers about the woman and started slowly reading every single one.
'Let's see what data she has collected on all these girls.' A grin spread across his face.
Kian, who saw it appear, couldn't help but sigh as he shook his head a little. 'He's still a boy, heh. Well, it's not wrong that I would have a better idea of who to hire as far as butlers go.
Luan read the first paper with full focus, 'name, age, and the usual. Wow, even the three sizes and if they have a sigil. She really went all out.'
Turning the paper, he saw one last point: "Motivation is interesting, but this is going to take a long time."
"That's right, young master. Your older brothers took about a week to choose their own servants. But for you, the madam went a little overboard, so it might take even longer. But just take your time; you can also try your sigils out during this time."
Nodding along, Luan started to slowly but carefully read through the papers, taking his time; he didn't want to rush this. He wanted beautiful servants but also capable ones; if he just went for beauty and ended up with only useless servants, he would suffer.
So he was determined to find the right balance between beauty and capability.

A few hours passed as Luan and Kian worked through the servant applications in silence, the room filled with the soft rustle of papers. Luan sat at the desk, the papers he had reviewed neatly organized into two stacks—one for those he wanted to question further, and the other for those he wouldn't hire.
Kian, sitting opposite him still with impeccable posture, had also sorted through a good amount of papers, organizing them the same way Luan did.
Luan leaned back in his chair, letting out a long, tired sigh as the weight of the task finally began to lift from his shoulders.
"That's enough for today; good work, Kian," he declared.
Kian nodded. "Well done, young master. Madam has instructed me to be your personal butler until you have decided on your servants."
