The four of them stood outside the sealed chamber, the weight of the discovery still pressing down on them. The whispers had faded, but their warning still echoed in Satya's mind.
Professor Raghav was the first to speak. "Whatever we just encountered… it wasn't just history. Someone—something—is still trying to bury the truth."
Devraj scoffed, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, well, they're not doing a great job scaring us off." He glanced at Satya. "What's next?"
Satya took a deep breath, his thoughts racing. They had uncovered Veer's imprisonment, but that only raised more questions. Why was he erased? And more importantly—what happened to Meera after his disappearance?
Saanvi seemed to read his mind. "The palace records might be manipulated, but people's memories aren't. If Meera lived after Veer was taken, there have to be stories about her."
Professor Raghav nodded. "The common folk—the palace servants, traders, anyone who lived near the palace during that time—could have passed down something through their families."
Satya's mind clicked. The old town near the palace. He had overlooked it before, but it made sense now. The noble records would be unreliable, but the people outside the palace? They might still carry the truth in whispered stories.
"We go there," Satya said firmly. "We talk to the people. Someone must remember Meera."
Devraj stretched. "So, we're going on a history hunt. Sounds fun."
But just as they turned to leave, something shifted in the air. A strange, heavy silence settled over them. The flickering lanterns lining the corridor dimmed, their flames shrinking as if suffocated by an unseen force.
Then—
A shadow moved.
Not just a trick of the dim light—something real. A dark figure, barely visible, standing at the far end of the corridor.
Satya's breath hitched.
It wasn't human.
Saanvi tensed beside him, gripping his arm. "Do you see that?"
The figure didn't move. It simply watched.
Then, just as suddenly as it appeared—
It vanished.
Silence.
No footsteps. No trace.
But Satya knew—this wasn't over.
He exhaled slowly, forcing himself to stay calm. "Let's go."
They walked quickly toward the exit, but Satya could feel it—something had changed.
The past wasn't just resisting them anymore.
It was watching.
