The tension in the hospital waiting room was unbearable. Gen sat on the edge of her chair, fingers gripping the armrests so tightly that her knuckles had turned white. Her usual confident smirk was long gone, replaced by a look of pure anxiety.
"Why is this taking so long?" she muttered, glancing toward the doors of the delivery room for what felt like the hundredth time.
Beside her, Wang placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Relax, Gen. These things take time."
"Easy for you to say," Gen huffed, running a hand through her already messy hair. "Your daughter isn't the one screaming in there!"
Wang chuckled. "She'll be fine. Lee is strong."
Gen exhaled sharply. Of course, Lee was strong. Stronger than anyone Gen had ever met. But knowing that didn't stop her from worrying.
Just then, the doors burst open, and a nurse stepped out. "Family of Lee Wang?"
Gen shot up so fast she nearly tripped. "Yes! That's me—uh, her wife. Is she okay? How is she? The baby—?"
The nurse smiled. "Both mother and baby are perfectly fine. Congratulations! You have a healthy baby girl."
For a second, Gen couldn't move. She just stood there, frozen, as the words sank in. A baby girl. Their daughter.
Wang let out a relieved sigh, placing a hand over her heart. "Thank heavens."
Gen finally snapped out of her daze and turned to Wang. "Did you hear that? We're moms!"
Wang raised an eyebrow. "You're only realizing that now?"
Before Gen could respond, Nam and her parents arrived, along with Lee's friends, Kim, Muk, and Adhi. They were all smiling, carrying flowers and gifts.
"Where's Lee?" Nam asked, excitement shining in her eyes.
The nurse gestured toward the hallway. "She's resting, but you can see her now."
Gen didn't need to be told twice. She practically ran down the hall, bursting into the hospital room.
There, lying in the hospital bed, was Lee—exhausted but glowing. And in her arms was the tiniest, most beautiful baby Gen had ever seen.
Lee looked up, her eyes soft. "Gen… come meet our daughter."
Gen took hesitant steps forward, her breath catching in her throat. Slowly, she sat on the edge of the bed and gazed at the tiny life in Lee's arms.
She was perfect. A little tuft of dark hair, tiny hands curled into fists, and peaceful, sleepy breaths.
Gen swallowed hard, feeling an unfamiliar tightness in her chest. "She's… she's so small."
Lee chuckled. "Babies usually are."
Gen reached out, her hands shaking slightly as she carefully took their daughter into her arms. The moment she held her, something inside her shifted.
This was real.
This little life—so fragile, so innocent—was theirs.
Tears welled up in Gen's eyes, but she quickly blinked them away. "Hey, little one," she whispered. "I'm your Mama Gen."
The baby stirred slightly but remained asleep, completely at peace in her arms.
Wang stepped forward, her eyes soft with emotion. "She looks just like Lee when she was born."
Lee smiled. "Mom, would you like to hold her?"
Wang nodded eagerly, and Gen carefully handed their daughter over. Watching Wang cradle the baby with so much love and care made Gen's heart swell.
Nam and the others soon crowded around, congratulating the new parents, taking turns holding the baby, and filling the room with laughter and warmth.
Gen turned to Lee, gently tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "You did amazing."
Lee smiled tiredly. "We did amazing."
Gen kissed her forehead. "Yeah… we did."
As they all sat together, welcoming their daughter into the world, Gen realized something.
This was happiness. This was family.
And she wouldn't trade it for anything.
