Chapter 3

Memories of the past years floated through my mind unbidden.

My father was a gambling addict who ran off with our money when I was very young.

My mother and I relied on each other to get by. Life was hard, but simple and happy in its own way.

Until one day, we encountered Elowen who was ready to end her life.

Her parents' company had gone bankrupt, and she was abandoned by her birth parents. Burdened with debt, she had no one to take care of her.

My mom felt sorry for her and took her in, offering guidance and support.

Over time, Elowen and I grew close and eventually got together.

Back then, Elowen was innocent and truly loved me.

Whenever my mom felt unwell, she'd be even more anxious than me, her son, fearing something might go wrong.

She said if it weren't for my mom's guidance, she might never have overcome her trauma. She vowed to repay my mom and me for the rest of her life.

But later, as the company grew bigger, Elowen visited my mom less and less.

She began to worry that I might run off with her money, and found various ways to exploit and take advantage of me.

I just wanted to go on normal dates with her, but she kept demanding money from me. She'd call me "honey" when asking for money, charge for dates, afraid that if I had money, I'd slip out of her control.

Yet when it came to Rylan, the new male assistant she hired six months ago, she was exceptionally generous and lenient. Not only did she cultivate him without regard for cost, giving him resources and projects.

She also gave him an unprecedented million-dollar sports car to easily pick her up for business events.

While I, her husband of seven years who built everything from nothing, never enjoyed such treatment.

They say it's for the company's image, but who believes that?

Moreover, after the business dinner that night, Elowen and Rylan didn't go home or back to the office.

Suddenly, the whole company was buzzing with gossip about them, thinking they'd soon announce their marriage.

But no one knew that Elowen and I had been married for years.

I was like an idiot, completely in the dark.

When I called the police and found her, she was in the car with Rylan, drunk and collapsed in his arms, giggling as she touched his abs, telling Rylan to keep it secret this time too.

At that moment, I felt a chill run from my head to my toes.

Besides this time, how many other times had Elowen and Rylan been together?

And how far had things gone between them?

After she sobered up, we had a huge fight, arguing about whether she had been unfaithful.
