An Extra

Chapter 2: An Extra

Hearing this threat from the guy he had bullied his entire school life, the bully couldn't believe his ears. How could the tables have turned so quickly, with them getting beaten and killed in mere minutes?

"It's a dream… yeah, it is… just a nightmare… this loser would never talk back, he's just a punching bag, haha, I'll wake up and trash him again until I vent all my frustration, haha!"

He lost his mind and chuckled to himself like a weirdo. He couldn't accept that he was now on the receiving end of the same treatment he had given Noah, only ten times worse.

"Everything is fucking fine!" he shouted. But nothing was fine, and the pain only grew stronger.

He had no friends left, since they were all dead, and the rodent drew closer with a foul stench of blood surrounding it. He tried crawling away, but his crushed hand made him shift to the side.

"You have powers here, don't you?! Kill this rat, it's your damn duty now that you have strength, you idiot, do your shit and let me wake up from this nightmare!"

"But I don't want anything to do with you," Noah replied, sitting on the cocoon's husk.

"Fuck it, I don't care, kill this monster!" the bully demanded.

"Everyone had the strength to help me, and no one did," Noah said, "What did you do with your strength? You bullied me. There's no one who will tell me what to do with my powers. I'll do what I want."

If the bully could see Noah's face, he wouldn't believe it was the same person. Noah had changed a lot inside the cocoon.

He was no longer human but a rare variation of an elf called a Night Elf. He was the only one of his kind.

The rodent sank its teeth into the bully's side and devoured his liver, making him scream endlessly. Soon, his screams faded and he died like a loser who believed it was all just a nightmare.

At last, Noah and the rodent locked eyes. The monster sniffed the air, its breathing fast and its tail swaying side to side.

It was excited by the idea of devouring Noah to evolve. Noah wasn't human anymore, and every cell in his body sensed the rodent's killing intent.

Noah had always avoided fights, but this time he felt confidence and adrenaline pumping through his veins. He was in his element, surrounded by his ally, the darkness.

The rodent leaped at him, and Noah dashed forward. He kicked the rodent's teeth, shattering them, and sent it crashing into the wall.

Stuck in the wall, it struggled to free itself. Noah rushed over, slammed his hand into its exposed stomach, and the rodent exploded into blood and gore.

Panting, Noah stepped away from the corpse. A strange window appeared in front of him.

[You have finished the assimilation with Earth-41A]

[You have partially awakened your innate bloodline and talents]

[No one else has passed the assimilation]

[You're the only one to fully assimilate with Earth-41A]

[You can choose a new name and surname for your new identity on Earth-41A. Upon selecting your new identity, you'll be given access to your status window.]

He had become a genuine extra in this parallel world. His bullies could have awakened too, but they were out of luck.

Only Noah was the true extra. "I want to be… Noah… Night," he said.

He kept his first name because his grandpa had given it to him, and it was precious. As for his surname, "Night" felt natural since he was connected to darkness and shadows.

[Your status has been updated and you can view your status window whenever you want within the trials.]

Noah grew curious about this status window and these so-called trials. The moment he thought of it, another window appeared before his eyes.

[Noah Night(Awakened)]

[Race: Night Elf]

[Affiliation: Earth-41A]

[Abilities: Innate(1), Acquired(0)]

Seeing that he had one innate ability, Noah pressed his finger on the screen, feeling its cold surface. Soon, it morphed into the ability window explaining his skill.

[Darkness' Favorite: Noah Night has innate nocturnal vision and is three times stronger, faster, and more intuitive where darkness blooms. He can naturally hide within shadows and be less conspicuous to others.]

This power let Noah kill the rodent in two blows. He took over the cave and made it an unfair battleground where everything bent to his rules.

It sounded overpowered, but after everything he had experienced, Noah didn't want to question it. He decided to work hard to strengthen it further, maybe by awakening more abilities or going through those trials.

He clicked on the race tab when the window returned to his status information.

[Night Elf: A forgotten branch of World Tree Elves, once known as The Night Protectors Of The Elven Forests. In the far past, Night Elves were shunned by their brethren and cast aside for succumbing to the darkness and giving up their role as protectors in exchange for more power, which turned them into merciless killers and took them far from the elves' core values. Having no place in the world and being hunted by everyone desiring their power, Night Elves went extinct and their bloodline was lost in the universe… until Noah Night appeared.]

Just having the system acknowledge him felt invigorating. Noah smiled at the window, enjoying how good it felt to be valued.

He now carried the burden of an entire race on his shoulders and vowed to restore its lineage and bring it back to the Elven Forest.

That said, he didn't want to become a killer.

That went against his values, so he resolved to bring Night Elves back to their former role as protectors. In the end, he also wanted a new home for himself…

Anyone that stood in his way was an enemy.

When Noah's thoughts reached that point, he noticed something twinkle in the corner of his eye.

It was an item!
