Chapter 6: Titan’s Offer & A Spectacularly Explosive Escape

Alleyway Standoff – Titan Industries Proposal

Valkyrie stood firm, arms crossed, her cybernetic enhancements gleaming under the flickering neon lights of the alley. Her piercing eyes locked onto Kai, studying him like a high-value asset rather than a person.

Nova shifted beside him, tense, already calculating how fast she could reach for a weapon.

Kai, on the other hand, was stalling for time.

He plastered on his best cocky grin.

"You know, when a pretty lady offers me a deal, I usually expect dinner first."

Valkyrie did not react.

Nova elbowed him. "Seriously?"

Kai shrugged. "What? Gotta keep things light."

Valkyrie finally spoke. "Titan Industries has been monitoring your activity. Your skills are... notable."

Kai swallowed. That was never a good sign.

"Notable in a 'hire him' way or notable in a 'vivisect him for science' way?"

Valkyrie ignored the sarcasm. "The data in your brain is of great interest to us. Titan can offer you protection. Resources. A future."

Kai blinked. "A future?"

"Join us."

The air froze.

Kai glanced at Nova, whose face hardened.

"Yeah, that's a no from me," he said flatly.

Valkyrie didn't flinch. "If you refuse, we will take you by force."

Nova cracked her knuckles. "You can try."

Valkyrie sighed. "You are making this unnecessarily difficult."

Kai grinned. "It's a gift."

Then he grabbed Nova's wrist—

"RUN!"

---

Escape Plan: Chaos & Improvisation

Nova didn't hesitate. She yanked a flash grenade from her belt and chucked it.

BOOM—

BLINDING LIGHT.

Valkyrie cursed as Kai and Nova bolted.

Titan drones activated, locking onto them.

Kai ducked as bullets whizzed past. "Couldn't we have just talked our way out of this?!"

Nova laughed. "Have you MET me?!"

They zig-zagged through the alley, Kai's cyberdeck already booting up.

He hacked into the city grid—

Traffic light control.

He triggered a mass gridlock on the next street, sending Titan vehicles crashing into each other.

Nova whooped. "Damn, you're good!"

Kai grinned. "Don't sound so surprised!"

Valkyrie, now recovered, leapt from a fire escape, landing directly in front of them.

Kai yelped. "Oh COME ON!"

She lunged.

Kai dodged—

Nova swung.

Valkyrie blocked—

And in that split second, Kai hacked her cybernetic arm.

It locked up.

Valkyrie's expression barely changed. "Impressive."

Kai smirked. "Yeah, I hear that a lot."

Then he shoved Nova off the ledge.

She screamed—

And landed on a passing cargo drone.

Kai jumped after her.

Valkyrie lunged to grab him—

Too late.

The drone whisked them away.

---

Temporary Safety, New Problems

The drone carried them across the cityscape before finally lowering toward a seedy rooftop hideout.

Nova rolled off first. "That. Was. AWESOME."

Kai groaned. "I'm gonna puke."

Nova laughed, then turned serious. "They're not gonna stop, you know."

Kai sighed. "Yeah. I know."

Nova studied him. "So what now?"

Kai exhaled. "We find out exactly what's in my head before Titan does."

A new voice cut in—

"Good luck with that."

Both spun around.

A shadowy figure stepped out of the darkness, grinning.

A woman with glowing cybernetic tattoos and a hacker's smirk.

The Rebel Hacker.

And she had plans of her own.
