Hunted Down
Kai, Nova, and Cipher sprinted through the abandoned subway tunnels, the flickering emergency lights casting jagged shadows.
Kai's mind raced. Project Synapse. His name was attached to it. His family's disappearance tied to it. And now, Titan Industries was hunting him down like a rabid dog.
Why?
Cipher skidded to a stop near a rusted-out train car, pulling up a holographic map. "Bad news. We've got movement—north and east exits are cut off."
Nova swore. "They're boxing us in."
Kai's cyberdeck pinged. A signal breach attempt.
His stomach dropped.
They weren't being tracked. They were being guided.
Cipher's expression darkened as she noticed it too. "Crap. Someone is herding us."
A metallic voice echoed through the tunnels.
"Stryder. You're out of options."
The air grew heavy.
Nova tensed. "That voice..."
Footsteps approached—slow, methodical.
From the shadows, she stepped forward.
A tall, armored figure in Titan's signature black and chrome exo-suit. Her left arm gleamed—a sleek, cybernetic limb made for war. A Titan insignia etched into her shoulder plate.
Her piercing blue eyes locked onto Kai. Cold. Calculating. Merciless.
Cipher groaned. "Ah, hell. It's her."
Nova clenched her fists. "Titan's Elite Enforcer."
Kai's pulse pounded.
Commander Elise Valkyr.
And she was here for him.
---
A Duel in the Dark
Elise didn't waste words.
She moved—fast.
Before Kai could react, she was on him, a high-velocity kick aimed at his head.
Kai barely dodged, rolling back. The wall cracked where her foot hit.
"You fight well," Elise said, voice smooth, almost impressed. "But you're outmatched."
Kai smirked. "That's what they all say."
Cipher leaned against a crate. "Yeah, and then he makes them look stupid."
Elise's gaze didn't leave Kai. "Then prove me wrong."
Nova moved to cover Kai's flank, but Elise raised a hand. "Stay out of this."
Nova hesitated. "Like hell."
Kai touched her arm. "Let me handle it."
Nova frowned. "She's a Titan-class war machine, Kai."
Kai grinned. "Yeah? I'm a problem-solver."
Elise smirked.
Then she attacked.
---
The Clash of Combat Styles
Elise fought like a storm. Precise. Relentless.
Kai fought like a ghost. Unpredictable. Adaptive.
She punched—he redirected. She kicked—he ducked and countered. He moved with improvisation, flowing around her raw strength like water.
But Elise was learning.
Each missed strike, each dodged attack—she was adjusting, predicting, adapting.
She's not just strong. She's smart.
Cipher watched, fascinated. "Gotta admit, I'm a little turned on right now."
Nova groaned. "Shut up, Cipher."
Kai ducked under a brutal swing, sweat dripping down his temple. She was good. Really good.
But Kai wasn't done yet.
---
Tactical Shutdown
Elise lunged for a finishing blow—her cybernetic fist aimed at his throat.
Kai grinned.
He raised his cyberdeck and flashed a command.
BZZZT.
Elise froze. Her cybernetic arm locked up.
Kai had hacked her mid-fight.
Elise's eyes widened. "You... shut me down?"
Kai smirked. "Told you. Problem-solver."
Cipher whistled. "Damn. That's hot."
Nova rolled her eyes.
Elise's expression shifted. Not anger. Not frustration.
Interest.
She took a step back, flexing her now-reactivated fingers. "Impressive. But this isn't over."
Kai wiped his forehead. "Yeah, figured."
Elise turned to leave.
Kai blinked. "Wait. You're not taking me in?"
She glanced back. "Not yet."
And then she was gone.
Cipher grinned. "Oh, she is totally into you."
Kai groaned. "Shut up."
Nova muttered, "Damn Titan freak..." But her clenched fists told a different story.
The war was getting messier.
And now? He had a Titan Elite Enforcer watching him.
Not as an enemy. Not as an ally.
But something far more dangerous.
A rival. A hunter. And maybe... something more.
