Chapter 19: High-Speed Havoc

"The Fastest Way Out is Through"

The stolen speeder screamed through the ruins, engines burning red as Kai swerved between shattered buildings. The Titan gunship stayed on them, its heavy cannons spitting fire.

"Kai!" Zero shouted over the wind. "In case you haven't noticed, we're in an open street with nowhere to hide!"

Kai's grin widened. "Good thing I wasn't planning on hiding."

Seraph's eyes narrowed. "What are you planning?"

Kai jerked the speeder left—straight toward a half-collapsed overpass.

The gunship pursued, closing the gap.

Zero's eyes bulged. "That's a dead end, Mercer!"

Kai pulled out his cyberdeck, fingers flying.

Hacked into the city grid.

The moment they hit the overpass, he triggered a command.

Power surge. Traffic controls rebooted.

A flood of abandoned automated taxis roared to life below them.

Kai slammed the speeder into a drift—then jumped off.

Seraph barely had time to react before Kai grabbed her wrist, pulling her mid-air.

They landed hard on a moving taxi.

Zero screamed as she followed, crashing onto another.

The speeder? Straight into the overpass wall.

BOOM.

The gunship pilot had no time to react. Wreckage, flames, and flying debris filled the sky.

The ship clipped the rubble and spun out of control.

Kai watched it go down, smirking. "Told you. Improvisation."

Zero groaned. "I swear, one day, I'm gonna—"

More engines roared in the distance.

Seraph tensed. "They're not done yet."

Kai's smirk faded.

Titan Industries wouldn't stop. None of the factions would.

They had to keep moving.

A Deadly Encounter

They regrouped in an old cyber cafe, its neon lights flickering in the shadows.

Zero typed furiously, rerouting their trail. "Okay, good news: We're ghosts again. Bad news? Everyone and their mother is still looking for us."

Seraph's blade twirled in her hand. "We need to take the fight to them. Laying low won't work forever."

Kai leaned against a table, thinking. The decrypted file still echoed in his mind.

Cryotube.

His family was out there.

And the factions were closing in.

Then the door slammed open.

A figure stepped inside.

Tall. Sleek cybernetic armor.

Glowing red visor.

And a voice cold as steel.

"Kai Mercer. You're coming with me."

The Corporate Enforcer.
