Chapter 13 – "War Begins"

Lekki – The Meeting Before the Storm

The dim lights of the penthouse cast long shadows as Joshua sat at the head of the glass table. Adisa leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, while two other men—Tunde and Chike—sat across from them. The air was thick with tension.

"Umaru wants us dead." Joshua's voice was calm, but his eyes burned cold.

Tunde exhaled sharply. "After last night? He won't stop now."

Joshua nodded. "Then we don't give him the chance."

Chike shifted uneasily. "You're talking about hitting him first?"

Adisa chuckled. "No. He's talking about taking everything."

Silence.

Then, a slow grin spread across Joshua's face.

"It's time we stop playing defense."

Victoria Island – Umaru's Club

A private lounge. Red velvet seats. Glass walls overlooking the city.

Umaru Falana sat in the center, sipping whiskey. Around him, bodyguards watched the room like statues.

The door opened.

A waiter walked in, pushing a cart with a silver tray. He placed it in front of Umaru and lifted the lid.

Inside—a single bullet.

Umaru's hand froze around his glass. His jaw tightened.

The waiter stepped back, revealing a phone on the tray.

It rang.

Umaru picked it up.

Joshua's voice came through. "This is me returning the favor. You sent five men. I'll send fifty."

Click.

The line went dead.

Umaru stared at the bullet, fingers gripping the phone.

His men shifted uneasily.

One of them stepped forward. "Boss, should we—"

Umaru slammed his glass down. "Find him. Now."

The war had begun.

Lekki – The Rooftop Decision

The rooftop breeze carried the distant hum of Lagos traffic. Joshua stood by the edge, looking out at the city. Lights flickered like stars beneath him.

Amara wrapped her arms around herself. "This isn't you, Joshua."

He turned slightly, his expression unreadable. "Then who am I?"

She hesitated. "The guy who wanted more. Who worked for it. Not someone trying to survive a war."

Joshua exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "Umaru won't stop. If I don't move first, I lose everything."

Amara stepped closer. "Then leave. You have money. Power. Just walk away."

Joshua looked at her.

And for a second, he wished he could.

But the streets didn't forgive. The game didn't let you quit.

"I can't."

Amara's eyes softened. "Then what happens now?"

Joshua turned back to the city.

"Now? Now I take Lagos."
