Ikoyi – Midnight
A convoy of black SUVs cruised down the empty streets, engines humming low. Inside the lead car, Umaru sat in the back seat, eyes fixed on his phone. His men were tense, their hands never straying far from their weapons.
The city was quiet. Too quiet.
Then—BOOM.
A parked truck exploded, flames swallowing the road ahead. The lead SUV swerved violently, tires screeching.
From the shadows—gunfire.
Windows shattered. The second SUV slammed into a street pole.
Umaru's driver panicked. "Boss, we—"
BANG.
A bullet pierced his skull. Blood sprayed the dashboard.
Umaru cursed, shoving the door open and rolling onto the pavement. His ears rang from the explosion. His vision blurred.
Shadows moved in the firelight. Joshua's men.
Umaru pulled his pistol, heart pounding.
Then he heard it—footsteps.
Slow. Controlled.
Joshua stepped through the smoke, hands in his pockets. His gaze locked onto Umaru like a predator studying wounded prey.
"Tough night?" Joshua said casually.
Umaru clenched his teeth. "You think you can kill me just like that?"
Joshua tilted his head. "Who said anything about killing?"
Behind him, Adisa and Tunde emerged, weapons drawn. Umaru's remaining men were either dead or bleeding out.
Joshua stepped closer, lowering his voice.
"You've lost, Umaru. You just don't know it yet."
Lekki – The Aftermath
The penthouse was alive with celebration. Joshua's crew laughed and drank, the tension of the past weeks finally breaking.
Adisa clapped Joshua on the shoulder. "Man, you played that. Umaru's running with his tail between his legs."
Joshua smirked. "For now."
Tunde raised a glass. "Lagos belongs to us."
Joshua clinked glasses with him but said nothing. He knew the truth—this wasn't over.
Amara's Apartment – Late Night
Joshua knocked softly.
A moment later, the door opened. Amara stood there, wrapped in an oversized hoodie, eyes searching his face.
"You're alive."
Joshua smirked. "Disappointed?"
She sighed, stepping aside to let him in.
Joshua sat on the couch, rubbing his temples. The adrenaline was fading, leaving behind exhaustion.
Amara sat beside him. "You went through with it."
Joshua nodded. "Had to."
She stared at him for a long moment. Then, before he could react—she leaned in.
Soft lips. Warmth. A second that stretched forever.
Then she pulled away, her voice barely a whisper.
"Be careful, Joshua."
He exhaled, eyes locked onto hers.
"I will."
But they both knew—there was no turning back.
