Chapter 24: The Search in the Ruins

While the town was in turmoil, Irene and Hawk decided to go to the site of the steel factory again to look for more evidence. This once - prosperous steel factory was now in ruins. The broken walls and collapsed buildings looked particularly desolate in the afterglow of the setting sun.

They carefully made their way through the ruins, not missing any corner where clues might be hidden. Irene examined every fallen wall and every abandoned machine, hoping to find some traces related to the case. Hawk, on the other hand, watched the surroundings vigilantly, preventing a sudden attack from the enemy.

Suddenly, Irene found a hidden entrance to a basement in a pile of ruins. The entrance was covered by a huge stone slab, which was covered with dust and moss. She excitedly called Hawk over, and the two of them worked together to move the stone slab aside.

A damp and rotten smell hit their faces. Irene frowned, turned on her flashlight, and carefully entered the basement. The basement was dark and damp, with cobwebs hanging from the walls. Some old documents and tools were scattered on the ground.

They began to search the basement carefully, hoping to find the crucial evidence here. In the corner of the basement, Irene found a shabby safe. The safe was covered with rust, and it seemed that it hadn't been opened for a long time.
