Chapter 25: The Mysterious Shadow

Irene and Hawk tried to open the safe, but the password had long been forgotten. They tried various methods, but to no avail. Just when they were feeling disappointed, they suddenly heard a faint sound of footsteps.

The two immediately became vigilant. Irene quickly took out her pistol, and Hawk picked up an iron rod nearby as a weapon. They carefully walked towards the source of the sound, and the beam of the flashlight swayed in the dark, illuminating the gloomy surroundings.

In a passage of the basement, they saw a mysterious shadow. The shadow was tall, wearing a black windbreaker and a mask on his face, so they couldn't see his features clearly. When the shadow saw them, it turned and ran.

"Stop! Don't run!" Irene shouted, chasing after the shadow. Hawk followed closely behind, and the two engaged in a chase in the narrow passage.

The shadow was extremely fast, moving freely in the passage. It took a great deal of effort for Irene and Hawk to barely keep up with him. Suddenly, the shadow disappeared around a corner. When Irene and Hawk reached the corner, they found that there were two passages, and they didn't know which one the shadow had fled into.

"What should we do?" Hawk asked, a hint of anxiety in his eyes.

After thinking for a moment, Irene said, "Let's split up. You go left, and I'll go right. If you're in danger, shoot to alert me immediately."

Hawk nodded, and the two chased down different passages.
