Chapter 3

The attentive and considerate demeanor almost made me doubt,

Could what I heard yesterday have been just a dream?

But the sharp pain in my spine reminded me that everything was real.

After the meal, Garrison left to handle some business, while my phone suddenly rang.

"Miss Lincoln, I'm calling to remind you that D-Day is the day after tomorrow. Don't forget our agreement."

The voice on the other end belonged to Zephyr, the head of the Dragon Squad. We used to train in the same unit.

I glanced down at my protruding belly and replied, "I won't forget!"

"You must also keep your promise to me - fake your death, right in front of Garrison!"

Just as I hung up, Garrison walked through the door.

"What's happening in front of me?"

I quickly locked my phone screen and casually said, "Oh, nothing. I was just asking the therapist if giving birth in front of you might traumatize you."

Garrison didn't think much of it. He held me tightly, his voice full of concern.

"How could it? You're risking your life to have our child. Of course I'll be there with you."

"Don't worry, your husband is the team leader. There's nothing I haven't seen before."

I smiled at him, saying nothing more. "Oh, by the way Lavender, the team is hosting a celebration tonight to commemorate our successful recovery of Viper Squad, and also to prepare for the big battle the day after tomorrow."

"You've worked hard these past couple of days, so I won't be home tonight. You should get some good rest."

I shook my head, "Take me with you."

Garrison's mood suddenly tensed up.

"No way, your body hasn't recovered yet. I won't allow it."

With that, he turned away without hesitation, leaving me alone in the bedroom.

But,

A celebration party gained in exchange for my legs.

How could I possibly not attend?

At seven in the evening, I slowly entered the party, seated in my wheelchair.

Everyone at the scene was drinking and socializing, only I seemed a bit out of place.

"Isn't that Leader Frost's wife? She never attends these kinds of events."

"If you ask me, even if she was impressive before, now that her legs are crippled, she's just a useless person!"

"I really feel sorry for the leader, having to spend the rest of his life with a woman like that. If only he had ended up with Commander White back then, he'd definitely be happier."

"I bet there's a chance old flames might rekindle. Didn't you see them heading to the balcony together just now?"

.....I heard this and turned my wheelchair towards the balcony, where familiar voices were coming from.

"Vivienne, don't blame yourself. Tiernan's infertility isn't your fault."

"But I always feel like I'm not a complete woman. My mother-in-law is always fuming at me. Garrison, I can't wait any longer. Please, help me."

Garrison's eyes were full of sympathy, with a restraint I had never seen before.

He immediately pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

"Dr. Lincoln, I need my wife to have a premature delivery the day after tomorrow. Please prepare for the surgery."

"Mr. Frost, I'm afraid that's not advisable. The cell fluid was just injected recently. Performing a C-section now could be life-threatening, and we definitely won't be able to save the uterus..."

Garrison spoke without hesitation,

"No need to say more. My mind is made up. Whatever the cost, I want Vivienne to become a mother!"

But Garrison,

What about me?

Am I just meant to be sacrificed, never to become a mother in my entire life?

Tears silently rolled down my cheeks. My wheelchair accidentally bumped into a nearby vase, alerting the two people on the balcony. Garrison quickly approached, a flicker of panic flashing in his eyes.
