Rina stood there, fists clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms. "Fuck. Fuck. Fuck."
She inhaled sharply, trying to steady herself, but the frustration burned in her chest.
Sybil escaped.
And Rina could've stopped her. She could've ended this.
But she didn't.
Her power it was too dangerous. Too unpredictable. If she unleashed it, she wouldn't just stop Sybil she'd kill her. And everyone else in the blast radius.
Briggs limped over, rubbing his shoulder. "Captain, you okay?"
Rina rolled her neck, trying to shake off the adrenaline. "Peachy."
Briggs sighed. "We'll get her next time."
Rina didn't answer. She just stared at the chaos left behind. The wrecked vehicles. The injured soldiers. The sheer power Sybil wielded so easily.
And deep down, a bitter thought crawled into her mind.
