Like a Normal Human

Rina gritted her teeth as she hauled Briggs into the nearest car a random civilian vehicle whose owner had wisely abandoned it in the chaos. She slid into the driver's seat, glancing at Briggs, who was barely holding on, his face pale from blood loss.

"Stay awake, Briggs. Don't pull some dramatic bullshit on me."

Briggs groaned, shifting slightly. "This… is car theft, you know that?"

Rina ignored him, slamming her foot on the gas and speeding through the darkened streets.

She could fly. She could get him to the hospital in seconds.

But not this time. Not today.

Not when her identity was already on thin ice.

She had to do this like a normal human.

Her hands clenched the steering wheel so tight her knuckles turned white. The hospital was only a few minutes away, but every second felt like an eternity.

Briggs let out a weak laugh. "If I die… tell my wife I—"

"You're not dying, dumbass."

She made a sharp turn, tires screeching.

Briggs let his head fall back, half-conscious, but there was still a smirk on his lips. "Kinda nice, y'know? You, driving like a normal person for once."

Rina's grip on the wheel tightened.

She didn't answer.

She just drove.
