Chapter 14: No way!

Upon hearing Luffy's words, Vir felt a headache coming on.

This guy… he really doesn't fear anything, huh?

How was he supposed to get negative points from him? How was he supposed to leave a psychological scar?

If things went on like this… wouldn't he be at a huge loss?

This was worse than winning a million berries in the lottery, only to have the wind blow it away!

The things in his worn-out medical kit… actually had no effect on Luffy!

This, this, this…

No way!

He had to test it. Just one try, and he'd know for sure.

Let's see if this guy is really as fearless as he claims!

"That's not just for animals. Of course, humans can use it too. Come! I'll help you bandage your hands and feet."

Saying that, Vir pulled Luffy onto the couch.

Nami and Sanji both tensed up at the scene.

Their captain… wasn't about to get treated to death, was he?

That medical kit looked terrifying.

Even the disinfectant had small bugs wriggling inside it.

Would this really be okay?

Their hearts were already in their throats.

But Luffy, on the other hand, looked completely unfazed. In fact, he even had an amused smile on his face.

"Hurry up, hurry up, Doc! I wanna be like that reindeer too!"

"When I get back, Zoro and the others are gonna be so shocked! Hahahaha!"

He clapped his hands excitedly while stretching out all four limbs.

Vir, seeing this, finally confirmed—this guy was truly fearless.

With a sigh, he rubbed his forehead.

It looked like getting through to Luffy would be a long journey.

Even as he thought about it, his hands didn't stop moving.

He disinfected each of Luffy's fingers and toes, even as tiny bugs crawled over the cleaned wounds.

Luffy, instead of freaking out, looked amazed.

"Doctor, are these bugs helping to heal my wounds? That's awesome! Hahahaha!"

Vir didn't bother responding. He had already given up. He just wanted to get this over with as soon as possible.

One bandage, two bandages…

Soon enough, all of Luffy's wounds were wrapped up.

Not that he was really injured to begin with—he had just climbed a ridiculously high mountain while carrying two people with his bare hands.

Now that his hands and feet were bandaged, he'd recover soon enough.

Given how absurdly strong his core was, he'd be fine in a few days.

Vir wasn't about to waste his negative points buying medicine for this guy.

"All done!"

Vir stood up after finishing.

Luffy, looking at his neatly wrapped hands and feet, jumped up excitedly.

His face lit up with joy.

"Oi! It really doesn't hurt! Chopper, look! I have them too! Hahahaha!"

He grabbed Chopper's hoof and shook it, grinning ear to ear.

But just then, mid-jump, he suddenly froze.

Something crossed his mind.

He turned to look at Vir, who was packing up his tools.

"Uh… Doc!"

"All three of us got treated by you. So… how much does the medical bill come to?"

Hearing this, Nami's eyes lit up.

Paying for medical treatment was only natural, after all.

She loved money, but that didn't mean she was stingy about necessary expenses.

What surprised her was that her blockheaded captain actually thought about paying!

Unbelievable!

His brain was finally working for once!

But Vir, without even glancing at them, casually finished packing and waved a hand.

"Money? Forget it, we're all buddies here."

Huh?

Nami's eyes lit up even more.

A doctor! Handsome! And doesn't charge for treatment!

Apart from his… slightly brutal methods, he was practically her ideal type!

"Really?!"

Luffy's jaw dropped, stunned by Vir's generosity.

In his mind, fixing up so many injuries so quickly should've cost a lot.

But Vir said it was free!

Luffy found this guy even more interesting now.

He liked him more and more.

Their crew needed a doctor, didn't they?

If they had a doctor, they wouldn't have had to waste time coming all the way to this island!

Luffy had already made up his mind about inviting Vir to join them.

Meanwhile, Chopper remained unnoticed.

Just as Luffy was about to extend the invitation, a loud explosion rang out from outside.

The noise immediately drew everyone's attention.

"Who?! Someone else is here?!"

Luffy rolled up his sleeves and headed for the door.

But the moment he stepped outside and saw who it was, his anger vanished.

His face instantly broke into a huge grin.

"Woaah! Zoro! Usopp! Vivi!"

Shouting excitedly, he sprinted over.

Hearing Luffy's call, Vir also looked outside.

A large group of people stood there.

At the front was Dalton, the Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Bison user. He looked weak, his injuries still visible.

Those wounds had been inflicted by Wapol's men.

But fortunately, he had been treated by the twenty Drum Island doctors.

It seemed those twenty had finally had a change of heart and saved him when he was on the brink of death.

After waking up, Dalton had immediately set out for Drum Castle—because Wapol was here.

He had to drive that tyrant away.

On the way, he encountered the Straw Hats, and they all took the cable car up together.

Dalton glanced at Luffy, then at the slightly damaged castle gate.

But Wapol was nowhere to be seen.

Was the battle already over?

His face showed a hint of confusion.

The citizens behind him wore the same bewildered expression.

Where was Wapol?

At that moment, the rest of the group inside the castle stepped outside.

Zoro's eyes landed on Nami, who looked completely fine, and his face filled with shock.

"Oi! How is it that you look totally recovered?! Weren't you on the verge of death just a while ago?"

The mosshead was utterly confused.

Usopp also found it unbelievable.

"Did you take some kind of miracle medicine? How are you already back to full health?!"

Vivi, too, was baffled.

As a princess, she had seen many doctors, but she had never heard of a fever being cured this fast.

That's right—Vivi was still with them, heading toward Alabasta as their next destination.

Seeing their shocked expressions, Luffy grinned from ear to ear.

"Hehehe! Awesome, right? Even I think it's amazing! It's all thanks to that doctor!!"

Then, in a lower voice, he added, "I'm thinking of inviting him onto our ship~"

Hearing this, the group's eyes instantly shifted to Vir.

The first thing they noticed—

Handsome.

Vir had flowing hair, a lean but strong build, and wore a long white coat.

On his feet—

A pair of universally recognized, top-tier flip-flops.

Right now, he stood with one hand in his pocket, casually looking their way.

In his other hand—

A somewhat battered medical kit that looked… unsettling.

Then, Luffy excitedly recounted how Vir had treated Nami.

Expressions on the crew's faces began to shift.

Their gazes toward Vir started to change.

This calm, good-looking doctor… had treated people in such a brutal way?!

Just as they were still processing this—

Sanji's face appeared in their view.

For a moment, the air fell completely silent.
