Chapter two: The challenge

[You have been chosen for the cycle. There are ten cycles starting out; you are a not in the cycle. You will be judged based on your actions for now on do not disappoint me William]

William woke up in a black room inside this room with no windows, only a door cracked open. Through that cracked snow fluttered into the room covering the area around the door. A normal wooden table sat with a tablet on the table. The chair looked as barebones as you could get before discomfort. It was like the wooden equivalent of a chair used for assemblies in school.

He stared and stared at the tablet he hadn't seen one for what felt like a lifetime which was only a year, sitting down he held the device reverently.

[Inside this tablet you can see the stats of yourself, companions and items while you can't access status check in the real world you can summon any item from in here. But be warned I am not lost and found and I won't bother finding an item for you unless it's close by.

[Close your eyes for thirty seconds to leave. It's the same way if you want to get back in]

William just sat in the chair looking at the screen. He thought and thought and eventually he decided to leave. When he closed his eyes it felt like a hand unseen large and unfathomable reached inside him and tugged something out from within him. His body burned alive with something!

It was unexplainable it felt like he was holding something soft yet he held nothing in his hands. This feeling was spreading through his whole body. Then it calmed down to something he could ignore than he opened his eyes to see he was in a different spot. He was on a cliff. Mushrooms larger than him surrounded him; they all were luminous and poisonous.

The mushrooms swayed unnaturally, as if something unseen had disturbed them. The glow of their caps pulsed, spreading eerie shadows across the cliffside. William's breath came out in shallow bursts, his body still tingling from whatever had been pulled out of him.

He took a careful step forward, testing the ground. It was damp, spongy, the kind of earth that promised to swallow anything that lingered too long. The air was thick with spores, shifting in the faint light, waiting to be inhaled.

A distant sound broke the silence—a slow, dragging noise, something heavy moving through the fungal growth. It wasn't the wind. It was deliberate.

He didn't need a system message to tell him what came next.

The challenge had begun.
