Just Another Boring Day… Until It Wasn’t

Chapter 2: Just Another Boring Day… Until It Wasn't

I woke up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock ringing like a damn siren. With a groan, I slapped the snooze button and buried my face back into the pillow.

Five more minutes… just five more minutes…

"YE CHEN! WAKE UP OR I'M COMING IN!"

My mom's voice echoed through the house, and in an instant, my peaceful morning was ruined. I sighed, forcing myself to sit up as I rubbed my face.

Just another day in the life of Ye Chen, an 18-year-old student with no special talents, no girlfriend, and nothing particularly exciting going on.

I glanced at my reflection in the mirror. Messy black hair, average face, slightly toned body from playing basketball every now and then—but nothing too special. Definitely not main character material.

My phone buzzed on the nightstand. I picked it up, checking the time.

7:20 AM.

Shit. School starts at 7:30.

"Ah, fuck—"

I jumped out of bed, grabbed the first T-shirt I could find, and rushed to the bathroom. Three minutes later, I was dressed, my hair still a mess, but who cared? It wasn't like I had anyone to impress.

As I bolted downstairs, my mom was already standing in the kitchen, arms crossed.

"Ye Chen, I swear, if you're late again—"

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll be fine!" I grabbed a slice of toast from the table and stuffed it in my mouth, mumbling as I ran out the door.

Another Pointless Day at School

The streets were buzzing with the usual morning rush—students on bikes, office workers heading to work, old men doing tai chi in the park.

I sprinted toward school, barely making it in time before the gates closed.

"Bro, you're always cutting it close," a familiar voice called out.

I turned to see my best friend, Zhao Rui, leaning against the school wall, grinning. He was a total flirt, always chasing girls—but unlike me, he actually had some luck.

"Man, I woke up late again," I sighed, stretching my arms.

"Let me guess—you stayed up playing games?"

"Of course. What else would I be doing?"

Zhao Rui shook his head. "Dude, you should get a girlfriend."

"Yeah? And who exactly is lining up to date me?" I scoffed.

As we walked into class, I glanced around at my classmates.

The usual people. The nerds in the front row, the chatty girls gossiping near the windows, the couple that wouldn't stop holding hands…

And of course, the class beauty, Liu Yan, sitting gracefully at her desk, flipping through a book. Long black hair, delicate features, an icy aura that kept most guys at a distance.

Zhao Rui nudged me. "You ever gonna confess to her?"

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, let me just embarrass myself in front of the whole class."

Before he could reply, the teacher walked in, slamming a book on the desk.

"Alright, settle down! Open your textbooks to page 45!"

I sighed and leaned back in my chair.

Another boring day of school, another boring life with nothing exciting happening.

A Walk Home… and an Unexpected End

By the time school ended, I was exhausted. Not physically, but mentally. Eight hours of lectures, pointless homework, and dealing with Zhao Rui's endless flirting attempts had drained me.

I slung my bag over my shoulder and walked out of the school gates.

"Hey, Ye Chen, wanna hit up the arcade?" Zhao Rui asked, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

"Not today, man. I just wanna go home and sleep."

"Psh, you're such an old man," he laughed, shaking his head. "Alright, see you tomorrow."

I waved him off and started my walk home.

The streets were quieter now, most people either heading home or already inside. The sky was turning a deep orange, the sun setting behind the buildings.

I took a deep breath.

Despite how dull my life was, I couldn't say I was unhappy. I had a loving family, decent friends, and while my life wasn't exciting, at least it was peaceful.

Maybe that was enough.

Maybe… I didn't need anything more.

And then—

BEEP! BEEP! BEEEEEEP!

I turned my head just in time to see a massive truck speeding toward me.

My eyes widened, my heart stopped

"Shit—!"

CRASH!

Pain.

A split second of blinding, searing pain shot through my body. My vision blurred as my body was flung through the air like a ragdoll, everything moving in slow motion.

I heard people screaming. Tires screeching.

Then—

Nothing.

I couldn't move. Couldn't feel anything.

I was lying on the pavement, my body twisted at unnatural angles, my blood pooling around me.

Was this… how I died?

No epic story? No grand adventure? Just a random truck accident?

I wanted to laugh, but my lungs weren't working anymore.

My consciousness faded, my vision going dark.

And just before everything turned to nothingness

A voice echoed in my mind.

[Reincarnation process beginning…]

Then—

Silence.
