"Doctor, we scheduled an appointment for IVF last time we were here. We're here today to give it a try."
"IVF? Didn't you decide not to go through with it?"
The doctor looked up, adjusting his glasses.
It was the same doctor as last time.
"Doctor, are you sure you're not mistaken? My darling and I have always loved children. How could we possibly not want one?"
Kellan silently took my hand under the doctor's desk.
The sweat on his palm told me he was nervous.
"Doctor, my name is Kellan, and my darling is Vivienne. We've even picked out names for our future children. We want a baby!"
Kellan repeated over and over, his palm getting sweatier. His thumb caressed the back of my hand, over the scar left from when he violently pulled out the IV last time.
I never thought I'd hear the word "darling" come out of his mouth again.
"Say something, honey. We've always wanted a child of our own, haven't we?"
Kellan suddenly tightened his grip on my hand.
