Scar's face was bleak with hatred and anger. Beside him stood a broken man, Manroe, a testament to the death of his life partner beast, the black panther.
Two heads stood on their necks where they had been cleanly severed, looking ahead with vacant eyes. These were the heads of One Eye and his other subordinate.
"Call Red and Dune immediately! And call the captain of the guard for an emergence meeting first thing tomorrow morning!" Scar shouted, sending spittle flying in the face of the thug in front of him.
His mind was racing. The woman he had underestimated was more than someone he can easily offend. He needed to do something about that woman and her boy servant before they decide to pay him a visit.
....
"Like I told you sir, the thugs ran away leaving behind their beast fighting my wolf behind." Rune repeated his one and only statement.
These city guards were corrupt. They had come to the shop seeking his blood.
But after finding nothing to accuse him with, they pressured him with the same question in different words trying to make his tongue slip, they didn't know him.
"Guards, I have things to do, if you are finding my answers unsatisfactory, I'm willing to stand before the court and be judged. "
The guards looked at each other, this kid was too direct! They knew they had lost the chance to apprehend this kid.
" No need young sir, please be on your way, we haven't further questions" the headguard forced a smile as he said. His eyes were frosty, a contrast to the smile and his polite voice.
After Rune had gone, the headguard instructed his subordinates to bring every scrap of information about this kid, from where he came from to whom he worked for.
.....
Three days later following the Crimson gang incident, Rune opened his shop, Paramount Weapons. Mrs Amaroc served as the shopkeeper being paid ten gold coins a month as her basic salary. On top of that, she will receive fifteen percent of every item she sold. This was by far the most paying job she had encountered or heard of.
People entered and awed and ooed at the design and colour of the the interior. It was a far cry from what they were used to in the Lower Region.
Rumors of the weaponry Shop which had just opened spread like wildfire in the lower Region. The first five purchasers received a discount which prompted others to test the quality of the shiny weapons behind the glass casings.
People were of the mind that shiny weapons were never strong and durable. They were just for display and adornment. Nothing more.
But here were weapons that were said to be as strong as the real ones. Of course they wouldn't just let their sky turned upside down without some proof.
A few days passed and more cultivators returned for more weapons. They told their friends about the authenticity of these weapons too.
Every Cultivator wanted a reliable weapon when in a fight. Not some cheap garbage usually found in the Lower and middle Regions.
This new shop was a gold mine for them.
Of course there were those who wanted to cause trouble, but after hearing about the wolf which lay on a pedestal on the counter tearing a black panther like it was nothing, they immediately changed their minds and went for easier targets.
Mrs Amaroc was always tired by the end of the day. This new shop was busy, more than she would have thought considering the Crimson gang's threat.
It seems like Rune didn't even care about them anymore. She envied him, so young and so powerful and rich.
Lately, Rune had started calling her mother. At first it was awkward until the creases straightened out. Now she saw him as her own son. To say she was proud of him was an understatement. Her only concern was if her daughter and Rune would go along.
Rune hired two more hands to help with the shop. A young man and a woman. Both in their early twenties.
....
Months had gone by by the time the Crimson Gang made their final move on the Paramount Weaponry Shop.
Hordes of cultivators came early in the morning before sunrise. The streets were eerily quiet, a herald of the stom brewing.
They surrounded the block on which the Paramount Weaponry Shop was. Their beast companions were well disciplined, not making unnecessary noises.
Scar looked on from across the building with his rattlesnake companion coiled around his shoulder like a rob, occasionally tasting the air with its tongue.
.....
Rune had sensed the crowd long before they had arrived and surrounded his block. He needed not be told that these people were here for him!
He woke up his adopted mother and the living-in young woman, the shop helper, to the store below. It was the safest place he had runed himself in preparation for something like this.
After clashing with the Crimson gang some months back, Rune had upped the defensive power of his shop.
He had plated the whole interior with steel he had refined himself. Furthermore, he spelt all kinds of defensive and offensive runes, ranging from simple to complex-compound runes.
It was time to determine the strength and durability of his work. If things go south, he still have a tramp card up his sleeve, Lenthandra!
" Mother, don't open the door until I come back" He opened the door and walked out, before shutting and locking it behind him.
Be careful out there Rune . Grey conveyed to him telepathically as he stood on the other side of the door.
Mrs Amaroc wanted to protest but didn't have much to say. She explicitly trusted her son. For the time they had worked together, she had learned that Rune didn't act his age of thirteen. He was more mature and responsible than she could say for some adults.
...
Scar saw the door to the shop opening and closing. No peep of the head or anything. He thought maybe the little simps in there got too sacred and locked themselves in.
The Captain of the guard, Sir Cain, a knight of the Fourth Order , stood beside Scar. His plumpy build show casing a life of luxury.
"What, scared to even show their faces eh? Let's get it over with before sunrise. I don't want witnesses to all this." Sir Cain sneered as he told Scar.
The captain of the guard was as corrupt as they came. He was the true head of the Crimson gang. No one knew about this except for the higher ups in the gang hierarchy.
" Don't worry yourself Sir, with your help of all those guards, I will surely kill that whore and her servant!"
"No, don't kill her, I want her alive" with that, the Captain of the City Guard turned and left, his belly leading the way.
.....
A few steps away, Rune stood quietly listening to the conversation between Scar and Sir Cain. He knew Sir Cain, but not the other man who seemed to be the right hand of Sir Cain.
He was Void Walking, invincible to all, even to soul eyes.
In his right hand, he held Severance, The Betrayer of the Void, pointing down and to the side. His cloak floated behind him as he walked towards Scar.
....
Scar raised his hand and held it there for a few breaths before dramatically bringing it down in a slash. At his hand signal, his strategically stationed subordinates quietly moved in for the attack.
" You have just signed your death contract, die" Scar heard a soft whisper not far from where he stood before his head went sailing into the air.
