A Soul Realm Beast

Rune moved like a scepter among the Crimson gang members. Everywhere he passed, beasts and people died. There was no resistance whatsoever. It was a pure massacre.

All this was nothing to rune who had fought teeth and claw in the forest where he had been staying for more than half a year. He felt no remorse nor pity for these people. They were the cancers of the society.

His hand methodically rose and fell. Each swing was a life taken. He wanted to wipe out this gangster, otherwise he will always feel like an axe is hanging over his neck.

Within a few minutes, only a few Crimsons were left. These were the ones who had scaled the buildings from the other side of the block guarding any escape route for Mrs Amaroc.

When they realised that their bird whistle codes had ceased, the scepter was already among them. Most of them threw their weapons down and ran for their lives. Unfortunately, they had offended the wrong person.

Rune followed up and killed them all with Severance. Each strike was precise and accurate. This wasn't time for flourishing his sword skill, it was time to get results in the shortest possible way in the most minimum time. Not that he was the flourishing type anyway.

Just like that, the Crimson gang was annihilated!

.....

The sun rose from the East, bathing everything in a golden glow.

People crowded around the block where the new weapon shop was located. The whole place was littered with headless corpses.

Mrs Amaroc fainted upon seeing a pile of corpses on the shop's doorstep.

Yes, people had seen murder scenes before, but the numbers rarely, if any , got to ten victims at a time. But in front of them were corpses numbering in the forties, plus the ones scattered around the block!

...

Sir Cain heaved and huffed as he ran behind the city guards. He didn't believe what he had heard. Dead people? Numbering in the sixties and still counting? At the Paramount Weaponry Shop? That hit close to home!

The city guards collected the corpses into carts and drove them a safe distance away from the city for burial. Everyone knew these were thugs that had met or offended a more powerful person, but to say whom, they had no idea!

Except for Sir Cain.

...

Rune looked straight at Sir Cain when he showed up behind a wall of soldiers. This was the man responsible for protecting this side of the Lower Region, but alas, he had become the predator himself, preying on his charges.

Rune merely smiled looking at him.

.....

Sir Cain turned his head to the left sensing a pair of eyes that set him off the wrong way. The servant was looking straight at him. He felt a chill seeing that gaze.

.....

In no time, the day gained its usual funny fair. Vendors sold their warss by the road side shouting at the passerbys. Carts loaded with farm produce passed, coming from the surrounding regions of the city.

The day went along well. The Paramount Weaponry Shop saw no less customers. The day was as busy as any other.

In the middle of the night, a silhouette of a young man walked casually in the direction of the Upper Rigion.

Some thugs followed him, marking him as an easy target. The silhouette disappeared just after a few turns through the alleys leaving a bewildered group of thugs. There was no trace of where the person had gone. He just disappeared into thin air.

Rune casually walked past the net of thugs that had surrounded him paying them no attention. They had not offended him so he wouldn't offend them too.

He passed into the middle class. Here, the cobblestones still retained some of their colours. The potholes were less compared to the lower Region. The shops and houses were of higher quality too.

There were guards patrolling in groups wearing armour with broadswords slung across their backs. The beasts accompanying them were huge and fearsome. The weakest aura he felt was that of a Jade Body Level magical beast.

Rune silently avoided the patrolling parties and made his way to the inner region.

Here the roads were spacious with flowers on either side. There were side walks in front of the shops and houses. Speaking of houses, they were erected on large piece of land. Each block occupied by four houses, some even with only two!

It was a far cry from the Lower Region where a single block was occupied by eight to twelve houses!

Rune followed the main way past the first two blocks from the Higher Region Gate and turned left. He was following Lenthandra's directives.

An hour or so of walking, he came to a white and gray mansion with sprawling grean lawn everywhere, with potted flowers on the balconies.

Guards wearing red leather armour patrolled the mansion. These were private guards of Sir Cain, paid from his pockets.

But today there were some inconsistencies in the uniforms of the guards. Besides those wearing red leather armour, there were also some who were wearing different colours and some even wearing plate armour and chainmail.

It seems the man had hired more guards for the protection of his family tonight. His instincts were good, but this time, regardless of being spot on, nothing was going to save him.

Rune jumped from atop the wall he had scaled to survey the surroundings and lightly landed on the freshly cut grass.

His boots made no sound as he walked past the vigilant guards and hired mercenaries.

...

On a balcony up on the second floor, a spirit reptile-like beast lay on the statue curiously observing the young man in the void.

In the sitting room of the mansion, a young man in his late teens smiled as he saw the boy approaching through the eyes of his spirit beast. His patience had paid off. Not long ago he had almost given up on the waiting.

Sir Cain had hired the mercenaries to protect his family, but only so much armed man can remain unnoticed and raise no alarm for the Duke. To make up for the limited number of cultivators, he had promised a young man in the Soul Realm who had had an eye on his daughter since she joined the Car Sect her daughter's hand for marriage if he takes out the person who took out his gang, his source of funds!

....

You have been noticed by that spirit beast on the balcony. And it's in the Soul Realm, meaning its owner is also in the Soul Realm.

Do you think you can take them out? Lenthandra warned him.

A Soul Realm?

Rune was more surprised than shocked. He had never thought that he would encounter a powerhouse in this city!
