Chapter 16: A New Step

In the weeks following the exams, Ryo began to feel a sense of calm. His dream of getting into the best university remained his top priority, but now, it felt lighter—no longer weighed down by the pressure of choosing between academics and his growing relationships. He knew his journey wouldn't be as easy as he had imagined, but for the first time, he felt confident that he could handle both.

That morning, after waking up, Ryo decided to take a walk around the city to clear his mind. The bright sky and cool breeze made him feel like the world was still full of possibilities. Mika, Ayumi, and Haruka had become an irreplaceable part of his life, and he was starting to realize that the connections he had with them brought a happiness he had previously overlooked.

Ryo eventually arrived at his favorite café, a place he often visited to reflect and enjoy some time alone. As he stepped inside, he spotted Mika sitting by the window, her face lighting up with a smile when she saw him.

"Ryo! I'm so happy you're here," she said cheerfully, motioning for him to sit.

"I'm happy to be here too," Ryo replied as he took a seat across from Mika. "I needed some time to think after all those exams."

Mika smiled warmly. "I know you must feel relieved, but don't forget to enjoy the journey after this. You don't have to rush. Focus on what you want, but also appreciate the little things around you."

Ryo felt lighter hearing Mika's words. She had always been someone who supported him in a gentle and thoughtful way. "I appreciate you being here, Mika. I feel better just talking to you."

They spent time together, chatting about things unrelated to exams or the future. Occasionally, they shared lighthearted laughter, exchanging stories and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of their time together. Although his dream was still far from reach, moments like this—Mika's presence, her genuine support—gave him a sense of peace that was hard to describe.

After a while, Ayumi arrived, as energetic as ever.

"Ryo! Mika! Come on, we have to go out and enjoy this beautiful day! I found a new fun place, and you both have to come with me!" she exclaimed enthusiastically, her eyes shining with excitement.

Ryo chuckled. "You never run out of energy, do you, Ayumi?" he said, feeling amused by her endless enthusiasm. "But maybe after this, I should head home to prepare a few things."

Ayumi laughed brightly. "Alright, alright! But don't take too long! You'll regret not having fun!" she said before dashing off, leaving Ryo and Mika behind.

Mika smiled as she watched Ayumi's lively departure. "She really never stops being full of energy, huh?"

Ryo nodded. "Yeah, she's amazing. But honestly, I think I prefer moments like this—calm, with no pressure. It makes me feel free."

A little later, Haruka finally appeared, her usual serene expression softening as she approached. "Ryo, Mika, I know you both have a lot to prepare for, but I'm glad to see you spending time like this. This is a good moment to think about the future, don't you think?"

Ryo smiled and nodded. "Yeah, Haruka. I know there's still a lot to do, but I feel a little better now. I know what I want to achieve, and I won't give up easily."

Haruka took a seat beside them, giving Ryo space to share his thoughts. "I believe in you, Ryo. The decisions you've made have already brought you this far. No matter what happens, you'll always find the right path."

Ryo was moved by Haruka's words. She always knew how to encourage him in just the right way—offering guidance without pressure. "Thank you, Haruka," he said sincerely. "I'll remember everything you've all said. I promise not to lose sight of the path I've chosen."

As they sat together, talking about the future, Ryo felt more at ease than ever before. Though the big exams were over, his journey was just beginning. His decision to stay focused on his dreams while also nurturing his relationships was the right one. Life wasn't just about reaching a goal—it was also about appreciating the journey and understanding what truly mattered.

That day, Ryo realized that the future wasn't as overwhelming as he once thought. With Mika, Ayumi, and Haruka by his side, he was ready to face whatever came next. His grand ambitions and his growing relationships could coexist, and he was certain that the choices he made would lead him to a life filled with happiness.
