Mission Briefing

Kael decided to put the tour on hold. He now knew the general layout of the town and exactly where to go when he was ready to activate the deal.

Moving back to his ship within the mountain he expected to see a few of his crew members out but not a soul stepped out. He entered the ship and decided to hold a meeting in the tactical war room where he and his crew's representative started to discuss their next move.

The representative was an elected crew member that spoke on behalf of the entire crew. The crew collectively wanted to settle down in the outpost until it was time to get going. They'd known each other for 6 whole years and wanted to get to know a few other people for a change.

The discussion didn't last long as it all boiled down to Kael wanting his crew to always be ready to depart while the crew wanted to mingle. Nearing the end of the meeting Kael relented and the crew were all given permission to leave and enter the ship at will.

Kael met up with the captain at the Titan Spire as he informed the captain of his plan. The captain didn't agree with the arrangements because they were their guests and didn't need to help out around the town but ultimately, Kael had more authority than him even though the town belonged to him.

Moving onto a different matter. Now that his had been taken care of, it was time for Kael to earn his own money. The captain's face lit up as he heard that Kael wanted to get started immediately.

First though, he needed to provide Kael the needed information. Quickly pulling out a map he just so happened to have on him, captain Vaylan pinpointed where Kael's help was needed.

The Duskwatch Bastion town had access to an amazing piece of machinery. They possessed a Gravitational barrier generator. Using various different configurations, they had set up the gravity barrier in a way that forcefully diverted any and all types of unauthorized abject to designated gravity wells around the town.

The gravity wells surrounded the town in a circular formation requiring one to use certain designated paths before they could enter and exit unless a well was temporarily destabilized like in the case of Kael's unexpected visit where they had to shut down one gravity well to allow entry.

They also had many unique vantage points where they had established high velocity plasma turrets and automated railgun platforms.

However even with all of these defense systems, the town was facing extinction in the near future from within. More precisely from underground. Due to the planet's extreme heat, most of its natural inhabitants evolved to live underground. One such natural inhabitants were Dune Wyrms.

Dune Wyrms were optimistic predators that grew up to 6 meters long. They resemble massive segmented serpents armor plates running along their backs which made them very hard to kill.

Dune Wyrms burrow beneath the group and strike from below, dragging prey underground where they could then finish it off. Their sudden attacks make them highly dangerous and their ability to burrow under make them even harder to kill.

There were multiple highlighted locations on the map that showed what the Duskwatch scouts describe as Dune Wyrms nests. These are location that the Dune Wyrms have settled, grinding the ground above into fine sand which makes it easier for them to travel and harder for prey to escape.

The many expeditions managed to uncover its weakness. Dune Wyrms had a none plated underbelly which meant every hit down there is a critical hit. Sadly, of the 2000 original Duskwatch inhabitants, 500 were killed off by these creatures and 500 more died to unrelated incidents.

Due to this entire operation being an isolated operation, there would be no more reinforcements or helping hands anytime soon but the captain wasn't willing to accept that they needed help.

One of the biggest Dune Wyrms nest discovered was one that was almost a next door neighbor to the town if it wasn't for two mountains that stopped its growth in the town's direction.

There have been increasing aggression from both sides and they seemed to be at a standstill but the Dune Wyrms had an advantage the humans didn't. They could grow in number. There was a lingering worry that the Dune Wyrms would grow to outnumber them soon enough and massacre everyone.

Until today, when the heavens themselves dropped a Murion at their doorstep.

"Oh I see. The reason my sister offered the two women was because she knew you guys would need my help." Kael said.

"Speaking of, I would recommend you go on this mission with them, their expertise will be very much appreciated. My sister, Vayra is an assassin who specializes in one shot skills if she knows your weakness which in the Dune Wyrms' case we do. Then you also have Sariah. Her spatial awareness is exceptional and she might prove useful in your battle. It should take a few trips before they are fully eradicated." The captain summerised while smiling.

"Where are they though?" Kael asked.

As if right on que, both Vayra and Sariah appeared from seemingly nowhere.

"We are at your service Master Kael." They said simultaneously.

"Step forward." Kael said as the energy levels in the area started to rise.

Feeling intimidated, the two ladies moved forward. Lifting both of his hands, Kael placed it on their shoulders and closed his eyes.

A blue energy originating from his chest ran through his arms and into the two women. Sariah's blonde hair that went up to her waist lifted into the air and so did Vayra's black hair.

Suddenly, a blue energy enveloped not just the two ladies but Kael's two guards as well. Like a chain reaction, all of Kael's 100 subordinates started glowing blue as well however, the four beings around him glowed the most. The light was almost blinding.

After a few minutes, everything died down as newfound energy awakened within the two women.

"This is amazing Master Kael. Your powers improved once again. The boost percentage just hit 50%." Oris said.

The two ladies Vayra and Sariah were too stunned to speak because it wasn't just their physical prowess that increased. They also developed something else. Something far more better than a physical boost.
