Chapter 18: Crush
Before jian could react, the culprit was already out the door. What happened to castrating him if he even smiled her way, she was too disoriented to do anything but surely next time, she gasped was she anticipating a next time
"Ugh" she groaned as she buried her face in her palms, why is her face so red and even her cheeks felt better after the peck
"What? do i love him" she drastically gasped as she squealed
"No no no that's too much" she mumbled
"Do i have like-" she smiled to herself a little too hard hurting her cheeks, she placed her hand on it to smooth the pain but it just reminded her of the peek
"A crush" she whispered jolting up, she wasn't smiling now, she looked like she saw a horror scene,
"Oh my God" she fell back on the bed, and immediately tried to sleep, she didn't want to think about anything anymore.
"Hello" Seth said through the phone unknownly holding he's breath, mrs.nina was calling. 95% of the time she calls to inform him of his father's health which 94% percent of time is not good news, he hoped it was the other 5% where she just called to check up on him, she was his nanny and his father's care giver. Probably thue to stress that his father developed all those conditions because he wasn't even that old but shouldered a lot of responsibility from a early age.
"How are you, son" nina asked and seth almost took a breath of relief so it was the 5% but that didn't last long because as soon as the pleasantries passed the news came
"It's your father, son" nina said and Seth felt his heart drop, he didn't like the tone
"Is he okay" he asked as he found a place to seat and wait for the news
"He had a heart attack earlier but he's stable now" nina explained, Seth couldn't help but feel like she had aged a thousand years through her voice
"The doctor said it's a good thing i found him on time, i went to get groceries and came back to find him on the floor" she explained when she didn't hear anything from the other side she added
"He's really fine now" she said as if to serve as extra reassurance to Seth
"Thank you nina" he sighed
"Earlier in the day, mr.mayard said he wanted to talk to you, the unfilial son you won't call him" nina joked to lighten the atmosphere and sighed a sigh of relief when she heard Seth chuckle. She was scared that by 48 Seth would end up like his father, the boy was only 21 and was stressed enough
"Should i tell madam" nina asked and seth shook his head but then realized he was on call
"No she's already dealing with my step dad, she has enough on her plate" Seth said and nina agreed, Mr. Mayard wasn't in that much of a critical situation and she could handle it. Last time she saw Jessica she had aged 10 years within a year adding this to her plate was just going to be too much.
"Anything keep me updated and call me when he wakes up" seth said and the two said they're goodbyes before hanging up. Seth and jacob are brothers from thesame mother with different fathers, back in th day. The news was everywhere in the headlines, 'from one young successful billionaire to another', 'the slut hieress', 'is she planning on hoarding all the men, whose the next victim', headlines were literally just that and people ate it up, even when both men came out to defend her, it got worst instead of better. His mother Jessica was first married to warner james Vanderbilt at just the age of 19 it was obviously an arrangement marriage although the two didn't love each other, they respected each other and along the line fell in love but for some reason they bought wouldn't just accept that, maybe because at that time warner was dating, the two agreed to keep a font for the media and investors while they did they're own things private. Two years later the one night drunken stand happened and Jessica ended up pregnant, 2 weeks later they're divorce was finalized, they were actually in the divorce phase when that happened because Warner's girlfriend was pregnant or so she claimed, a year later they'll find out she was not and she only did that to get warner and Jessica to divorce, she actually planned everything even going as far to pay a homeless pregnant woman to deliver her baby in the same hospital, thesame room and she pretended it was hers, she was only caught because one of the nurses she had a fallout with revealed everything to Jacob. By this time there were rumors of Jessica and peter mayard, and 2 months later they announced they were dating and the flood gates opened. Warner did know about he's son so did the public, he would visit him and actually was in his life. Jessica was the one that insisted that they not get back together when she found out mary was pregnant too. She thought it wasn't fair to her to just get dumped like that. The irony of the situation was warner didn't receive hate for having a child with his girlfriend when he has a wife but Jessica couldn't hear enough of how she was jumping from one rich man to another. Then a years later Seth was born, 6 years later she divorced peter because it wasn't just working out, it was a mutual divorce although peter still liked her he gave up and Jessica and warner recoiled and are still together. Warner later develped lung cancer and heart problems so Jessica had to quit her socialite life and continue her career as a stay at home fashion designer so she can take of warner.
"Why are you looking so gloomy" Seth heard someone asked, he looked up to see mina, who smiled at him so he smiled back
"Ah just stuff" Seth answered as she took a seat
"Right" she commented before asking
"Did jian rest well, her cheeks looked swollen" seth looked up at her, he actually sneaked out so no one could see him because Jacob said she should rest so he didn't expect mina to see him
"Oh i saw you guys at the corridor when i was passing by" she nonchalantly said as if she wasn't basically stalking them
"Ohh" seth exclaimed that made sense
"Are you two together or something" she finally asked the question that got her walking the hall building so she can bump into seth
"Did fiona send you" seth joked and mina laughed
"No just curious" she replied
"No" Seth answered and if he had glanced up at her, he'll see how relieved she looked with a smile, of course seth was just being nice to a friend and she was just overthinking that relive didn't last long though because she heard him mumble
"Yet" with a smile and she felt her heart drop, does that mean that seth likes jian. Looks like she has to act before he's stolen again, does jian like him that was what she has to find out first, and how long has this crush been going on. As they sat there, they heard the click clacking of heels the two looked up to see fiona walking towards them, mina looked at her and smiled before looking down, she felt guilty.
"Hey" she waved
"Oh hey girl, I'll leave you two to chat i just remembered i have something to do" she said as she hurriedly left, ugh she groaned, should she really do it. She'll find out if fiona wants to get back with seth before doing anything first.
"You good" fiona asked when she noticed he's expression
"Its my dad" seth finally could tell someone about it, he just wanted to talk about it. He wasn't very comfortable with mina, he only got to know her because of Fiona and that's how they became friends
"Is he okay" fiona immediately asked with worry, they basically grew up together so she his father was like an uncle to her
"Nina said he's fine now, heart attack" seth explained as he ruffled he's hair, this whole thing was making him stress with worry
"Oh thank God, he's fine now" fiona heaved a sigh of relief. The two stayed there and chatted some more before mina came and told them to join the others down. She didn't like the two alone together, it would just drop her chances even more if fiona wanted him back or worst he falls for fiona again. Fiona smiled at her but her smile had a underlined meaning, so mina was caughting on and looks likes she was subtly making her moves, good for her either way.
