CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3: Compromise

Evelyn's Point of View

Well, that didn't even last a day. His words completely spoilt the joy I was feeling. I hated it when my dad yelled. Unfortunately, I am a daddy's girl, I always have and I always will be. His opinion actually matters. He has been the one that supported me throughout and we're really close. I can't just pretend his disapproval doesn't hurt me. However, I'm also a very stubborn female. Landon was just a few inches from my yelling after and he looked apologetic. I don't think he intended for dada to react this way.

"I'm sorry." Landon mouths from the side. Dad was still yelling. He looked weak and this whole thing upset him terribly. I went to him and I held his arms. I looked him in his eyes and told him exactly how I felt.

"Dad please. Stop stressing yourself. We can have a civil conversation about this." I tell him, leading him to the car. It works because he grumbles but remains silent about it. He runs his temples and I know he got a headache from all the yelling. Typical dad. Landon drives us home and we all go to the office. I hand dad some whiskey in a glass. I need him to be relaxed while I speak.

"So, we can have a conversation about this now. I found out Kai… Malakai Fang is my mate at the conference. We hit it off immediately and it's going great. At least it was, until I found out that our packs are in a feud." I tell them in the saddest voice I could muster. I need to evoke emotions so they could actually listen to want I was saying. I even bring on a little tears to help with my mission.

"It's just, I have been single for so long. I know I said it didn't affect me but those looks I got. It was so hard but I finally found the one but now I can't be with him. The moon goddess had a twisted sense of humor." I say, and I think I hear a voice crack at some point. I was good at this and it's a little scary. They were big looking at me with pity. I hate pity but I couldn't break character. Landon clears his throat.

"Dad, we were talking about ending feud before now. Don't you think this would be the perfect opportunity? We don't even know what exactly happened to start the feud." Landon asks and I almost smile. I can always trust Landon to have my back. Dad looks defeated. He looks between his two children, swirling the whiskey in his glass.

"I'll have to consult with the rest of the pack's elders. This isn't a trivial issue." He finally replies. Forgetting I'm meant to be sad about being separated from my mate, I run to hug dad. He pats me for a second before letting me go. He isn't so sentimental or so he likes to think bit j can swear I saw his eyes glistening. I'm so happy.

"Thank you, thank you , thank you!" I practically squeal. I go to my room, barely able to conceal my excitement. I FaceTime Kai. He doesn't pick. I end the call. He is most likely doing alpha duties. It dampens my mood a little but I start to scroll through my feed. It's so boring. Instead, I try to call Sophie. She's my best friend but she's human. I couldn't deal with all the fake shewolves in the pack. They were literal wolves in sheep's clothing.

"Hey, Soph." I greet but before I could say anything else, Kai's call comes in. I apologize to Sophie before picking his call. I can't believe that I have officially become one of those females waiting on a phone call. He looked so arranged that I had to sit up and pretend like I was not just rotting on my bed.

"Hi, Kai. I have good news." I tell him but he looks so stressed that I feel like it isn't a good time. I want to end the call but he tells me I should go on, assuring me everything was fine. I tell him excitedly but he looks like he doesn't hear a word. For a second, I thought the WiFi wasn't working anymore. His facial expression then changes to one of shock.

"What? How? That's good news! That was so fast. I haven't even gotten a chance to tell them about it." He replies. Finally! That was the expression I wanted. It could be my overthinking but I was worried he didn't want me anymore because he looked sad at first.

"What can I say? I am their most cherished and who could say no to this cute face?" I ask teasingly and he laughs. I think that is the first time I have heard him laugh. Considering I met him a few days, it's fair but that is the most beautiful sound I have heard. Seeing him laugh literally brightened my phone. Now, I felt so much better. We talked about everything under the sun, just enjoying each other's company. Well, that was until I realized I was keeping him from his duties. He wanted to decline a work call but I insisted that he took it. Work is super important and it wasn't like we were doing anything as important. I was glad that he was willing to put off work for me though. When he ends the call, o call Sophie back.

"You wouldn't believe what just happened." I tell her excitedly. I didn't spill everything but I did tell her I had found my person. Hopefully, it would work out. I was lazing in my room, trying to decide whether I would have dinner upstairs or with dad. I hear a knock on my door.

"Come in!" I yell. The door is opened and Landon is there with a tray of dinner for me. Well, at least he made the decision for me. He hands me the tray and sits on my bed. I missed us hanging out like this.

"Well, I wanted to be the one to tell you. The Fang pack is visiting tomorrow to discuss your relationship and other matters. Let's hope." Landon says. Oh no. Things are happening faster than I thought. What if they don't agree? I'm dreading tomorrow.
