Chapter 4

Unexpectedly, it was I who ended up sprawled awkwardly on the floor.

"Jade!"

Garrison burst through the door, swiftly catching Jade in his arms.

The scalding hot porridge, sticky and burning, poured all over my head.

I curled up on the ground, crying out in pain, but Garrison's face was etched with concern as he held the woman, filled with worry.

"You scared me to death! If anything happened to you, I couldn't go on living!"

Each word was spoken slowly, every sentence filled with deep affection.

I struggled to my feet with great difficulty, but Jade screamed repeatedly in fear.

"Garrison, I just wanted to feed your uncle, but Chase said I was trying to kill him and threatened to throw the porridge in my face. I nearly died again!"

Garrison's face darkened as he turned to me, his tone ominous like an approaching storm.

"Chase, why do you always have to be against Jade?"

Jade cried even harder, while the man's words were clearly biased in her favor. The triumph in her eyes was barely concealed.

As I approached the sink, Garrison followed right behind me.

"Darling, he's my brother. Even if you're jealous of his recovery, you shouldn't resort to violence."

My heart clenched painfully.

Without looking up, I said,

"The porridge was 158 degrees Fahrenheit. She was about to feed it to my father without a second thought. Shouldn't I have stopped her?"He suddenly changed his expression.

"You still shouldn't push her! Do you know how hard it was for her to recover?"

Almost letting something slip, Garrison grabbed my hand as if to cover it up.

"Jade is, after all, a success story. We should learn more from her."

I pulled my hand away, ignoring him.

He wanted to lecture me some more, but suddenly, Jade clutched her head, complaining of pain.

In an instant, Garrison's attention shifted to her.

While the entire hospital staff fussed over Jade, in a corner nobody cared about, I had already wheeled my father to the airport.

Having spent years in the hospital, I didn't have much luggage at the Montgomery residence, which made things easier.

As we went through security, Jade sent me a message unprompted.

"I told you I'm fine. Garrison insisted on carrying me back. Your taste is good – the bed's big and soft."

The photo showed her lying on my marital bed, with Garrison drying her hair behind her.

It wasn't until the plane landed that he realized I hadn't come home.

He called anxiously, his tone awkward.

"Stop acting like a child. Jade's a guest at our home. What kind of host doesn't welcome their guest?"

I smiled bitterly. Wasn't Jade the true lady of the house in his eyes?I didn't wait for him to finish before hanging up the phone.

I glanced at the time. The divorce papers would be arriving soon.

After sitting quietly in the living room all night, Jade's repeated attempts to coax me couldn't dissuade Garrison from waiting for me.

Feeling somewhat irritated, I flipped open the diary. Looking back, a new page was already filled with my name.

He froze, then looked closely. Next to his own handwriting was a line in an elegant script.

"I'm letting you go."

Garrison's hands trembled as he abruptly stood up. "Did Chase... read my diary?"

"That's impossible. Chase would never snoop through my things..."

But after reading it over and over again, Garrison's figure swayed unsteadily.

How could he not recognize my handwriting? Back then, when he tricked me into signing the surgical consent form, changing "resuscitation" to "transplant," it was clearly all his doing.

The doorbell rang. Thinking it was me, Garrison immediately rushed to open the door.

But seeing the courier, he was greatly disappointed.

Especially when he received the divorce papers, with my signature prominently displayed in the last column.

He staggered backward, his eyes filled with doubt and disbelief.

How could I, who had always been gentle and caring towards him, bear to divorce him?

This must be a joke I was playing on him!

Just then, the doctor called, timidly saying:

"Mr."Mrs. Montgomery, it seems she's discovered the surgical records from that year. She even took your father-in-law away with her..."
