"Jade, is your nervous system feeling alright?"
Jade flashed a mischievous smile and put her arm around his shoulders.
"My dad might be getting old. Besides being a bit slow-minded, he's not much different from before. Thanks to Garrison, otherwise I would've ended up in a vegetative state too."
Hearing this, Garrison flicked her forehead in disapproval.
"What are you saying? From now on, you'll be healthy and worry-free. I won't let anything happen to you."
Jade blinked her eyes.
"Garrison is always so good to me, but I'm just your buddy. If your wife finds out how you're treating her dad, will she make me give it back?"
As she spoke, she looked worried and slowly leaned closer to the man.
"If I have to give it back, I can only accept if Garrison does it himself. I'm afraid of pain and always remember how hard Chase slapped me that day."
In just a few words, she painted me as a heinous criminal.
Using weakness to gain sympathy, I was almost fooled, let alone Garrison.
On the day it happened, I watched her push her father off the platform. Even though she fell unconscious, I slapped her without a second thought.
But her fiancé Fintan accused me of being a vicious woman, and the guests cursed me as being cold-blooded.Even if I were to crack my skull open, no one would lend a helping hand.
Garrison carrying his father on his back and rushing to the hospital was like a beam of light in the dark night.
But that warmth belonged to Jade. I was just lucky to catch a few stray rays.
Thinking about this, I fumbled with my phone,
All eyes immediately turned to me.
Garrison opened his mouth, instinctively shielding Jade.
"Chase, don't you usually rest at home on weekends? Jade came to share treatment experiences with me. I've been so busy lately that I forgot to invite you."
I didn't respond.
"Sis Chase, are you still mad at me?"
Jade peeked out, her lips curling into a slight smirk, her gaze challenging.
The faint scar on her forehead was the only hardship she had ever endured.
The stolen neural network, it seemed she was using it to her heart's content.
It was meant as a joke, but Garrison took it seriously. He frowned, about to persuade me, when his assistant came over to whisper something in his ear.
Seeing this, Jade naturally linked arms with me,
"Garrison, your wife is upset. I'll accompany her to see your dad. You go ahead with your work."
Garrison smiled gratefully at her and turned to leave.
As she spoke, she forcefully dragged me to my father's hospital room.Perhaps due to Jade's recovery, the nurse's care for her father became increasingly negligent.
She rolled her eyes and waved her hand in front of her nose with disgust.
"It stinks to high heaven. Your dad's really holding on, surviving even a forced craniotomy."
Jade kicked over the IV stand by her father's bed, her gaze contemptuous.
"If it weren't for Garrison begging me, I wouldn't have bothered with this old geezer's neurons."
"Sis, don't be mad. After all, with your dad half-dead, you've got no one to talk to. I'm just doing his job for him."
"Back then, I just showed him some intimate photos of me and Fintan. He almost lunged at me to hit me. Him falling when I pushed him was his own damn fault. How dare he drag me into this!"
"Having a deadbeat dad and a biased husband, you're really down on your luck."
I kept my face taut.
"A foul mouth will come back to bite you. The man has to be chosen by me, the neurons have to be from my dad. What are you, a trash bag? How can you hold so much?"
Jade was seething with anger, sweeping everything off her father's bedside table.
"If it weren't for me, would his worthless life still be hanging on? You should count your blessings I haven't made you kneel and kowtow!"
Seeing my dad's feeding tube, she raised an eyebrow, smiling with unusual brightness.
"Sis Chase, uncle hasn't eaten yet, has he? How about I feed him myself?""Garrison would surely love me even more if he knew."
As she spoke, Jade lifted the steaming bowl of porridge and approached her father.
In a moment of panic, I pushed her to the ground.
