Dashiell shrugged his shoulders and gave her a contemptuous glance, then broke free from her hands. "Enough. With your penniless, deadbeat appearance and kids in tow, only your ex-husband would be willing to stick with you. Stop clinging to me. Let's end this here. I've sent you the engagement party invitation. Come if you want, don't if you don't. I'm not forcing you."
Dashiell spoke casually, as if their relationship had been nothing more than a joke. I couldn't help but sigh, thinking that indeed, those who betray others' sincere feelings never come to a good end.
I left Faye's passport at the security desk, not wanting to see the conclusion of this argument, and turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, shortly after I got home, I received a message from Faye.
"Mr. Winters, I'm sorry. I deeply regret not cherishing you properly. I won't contact Dashiell anymore. Could you please meet me? I miss you so much."
