Chapter 1

My fiancé and I were both members of an archaeological team.

Just because his pure love wanted to see what an ancient tomb looked like.

He broke the rules and secretly took people down into the tomb at night.

I chased after them, only to find they had accidentally triggered a mechanism inside.

In that critical moment, my fiancé tightly grasped his pure love's hand and escaped the tomb.

Trapped inside, I could only plead with him desperately over the radio:

"Quickly report the situation to the team leader and request a rescue."

But he scolded me: "Stop pretending! If I report this, getting disciplined is the least of our worries. Melody could face criminal charges! Be more understanding and don't try to hurt her on purpose!"

"Melody's injured. I'm taking her to the hospital now. Get yourself out of there quickly!"

What he didn't know was that I had just injured my leg trying to save him.

And his pure love had seized the opportunity to shove me into the deepest chamber of the tomb, sealing off my escape route.

In the lightless confines of a sealed tomb, icy serpents coiled around my ankles.

At the peak of my terror, I couldn't help but call out Granger's name.

The response I received was his voice, dripping with annoyance and mockery:

"What now? Are you going to tell me again that Melody trapped you in a tomb and you can't get out, so we need to urgently report to the team to rescue you?"

Granger snorted, "Seraphina, cut the crap. Melody is a pianist with a gentle and kind nature, nothing like a pathological liar like you."

After a pause, his voice crackled through the walkie-talkie again.

"Don't worry, we're almost at the hospital."

His tone was impossibly tender, but clearly not meant for me.

The bone-chilling cold wrapped around my ankles seemed to spread to my heart.

I opened my mouth slightly, but my throat was too bitter to utter a word, leaving only despair in my heart.

The weak beam of the flashlight barely illuminated the tomb, revealing scattered debris and a coffin in the corner.

Snakes slithered across the ground everywhere, with occasional squeaks from rats breaking the silence.

Worst of all, the arrow that had struck my leg was now rusted, posing a risk of tetanus.

If I remained trapped here, I might not make it through the night.I could not lay my hands on my phone, which I had lost in my panicked escape earlier.

I wanted to switch the walkie-talkie to the public channel to seek help from the archaeological team, but it was the middle of the night and no one would hear me.

It seemed that Granger was the only person who could save me now.

But to make him choose between me and his pure love, Melody.

He had already given his answer.

When Melody boldly crossed the warning line set by the archaeological team and reached out to touch the ancient tomb, accidentally triggering the mechanism inside.

As a shower of stones and arrows rained down, Granger rushed towards her without hesitation.

He didn't even glance at me.

Naturally, he didn't notice that I had pushed him away in the first moment, resulting in my thigh being shot by an arrow.

He also failed to see that Melody, taking advantage of my immobility, viciously shoved me into a small burial chamber nearby.

She even rotated the mechanism outside, closing the chamber door.

She smiled so smugly, using the most innocent face to utter the most venomous words.

"The one who isn't loved deserve to die."

"Anyway, Granger only loves me. Why don't you sacrifice your life for our happiness? I'll be happy enough for the both of us."

At that moment, Granger was still anxiously shouting Melody's name. The stone door of the tomb chamber slammed shut with a thunderous boom.

Through the cracks, I caught a glimpse of Granger pulling Melody along as they fled for their lives.

He held her hand so tightly, willing to be struck by falling debris rather than let go for even half a second, giving her a profound sense of security.

Yet throughout the entire ordeal, it never once occurred to him to look back for me.

Not even a single glance.

I closed my eyes and laughed bitterly, mocking myself for foolishly loving Granger for ten years - I'd have been better off raising a dog.

Taking a deep breath, when I opened my eyes again, my resolve was stronger than ever.

Granger may not love me, but my parents who do love me are still waiting for me to come home.

If he won't save me, then I'll find a way to save myself!

I made a pact with myself in my heart:

Seraphina, have some self-respect. If you make it out of here safely, stop loving Granger once and for all.
